Coming in November (maybe), what TWC could add (if it wants to)

Under the heading of programming changes on TWC's local website:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/milwaukee/programming/legal_notices2.html
They haven't changed the date or eliminated the notice - or added anything, either.:(

This could have been just careless on their part or it is because maybe more HD channels,
as in those 6-9 HD channels mentioned previously, are to be added soon.:)

Personally, I am hoping for the History Channel HD, FoodHD and Lifetime Movies HD for those "Free HD Channels" to appear soon.
-But StarzHD is what I'd like to get at the very least for premium additions since they raised the rate (again) for 2008 to another $12/year.:D
(CinemaxHD or TheMovieChannel HD wouldn't hurt for those with "Digipic 4000", either).

So...who is waiting like me-that is a TWC HD subscriber (still)?

gparris

Here is what TWC Milwaukee HD subscribers could see if local managers care about us in the near future:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/SouthCarolina/products/HDTVAvailableChannels.html

While these TWC HD subscribers have all these HD channels available at this particular location:
This TWC location summarizes what any TWC location in the country can expect from TWC for HD channel selection.
Many TWC locations have it available now and in their program guides!;)

FYI, the National Geographic Channel HD is (still) only available in Hawaii, however.:(

The notice in our local TWC website regarding any other changes remains unchanged
-with the Nov.1st date (actually the 14th for those two HD channels), still indicated.

Thought you might like to see this page:

http://www.cbsdigitalchicago.com/comcast/hd/

On the right side it does say that all 3 will launch by the end of the year.

gparris

What?

YOU decide what HD channel Comcast is offering?

Here in Wisconsin, TWC just shoves what little we get because
heck, we're just their HD subscribers!

Thanks for the Comcast update, though!

You do have to wonder why they are making you vote? I bet most people would want all the channels. Why make them decided, give the people what they want. ALL THE HD CHANNELS.  At least they are doing more then TWC.

Actually, the vote means nothing, all 3 are coming by the end of the year & History HD on 11/27.  It's mainly for the contest to win.

Comcast has added USAHD among many other HD channels to its lineup, even in Chicagoland, at least I thought (maybe it was in Boston).:huh?:

Either way, the contest looks like fun and the channel selection way, way better than TWC Wisconsin, or even, possibly, TWC as a whole.:D

Thanks for the input, Sparkman87!

(Could you run your Comcast Cabling over to my house, now? Just kidding!):rof:

No problem.  Now if we could just get them to add ESPNU & Big Ten Network (with HD feeds), then I'd be real happy.

gparris

BigTenNetwork or BTN is asked for, but the NFL Network HD is asked for more often, when I go through what TWC offers in HD vs. its competition for assistance in setups.

This weekend alone, I got several inquires for new HDTV setups and the NFL Network HD channel was most asked about.
It was if I could somehow "deliver" it with their new HDTV.

When folks push the subject, I say TWC just doesn't even offer it and not even as an option, like in a sports package
(as TWC wants to do, as I understand it).
Sometimes, you have to explain it to them a few times for it to "sink in" that it is not available, period.

Several inquires have already come in now that HGTVHD channel has become available on TWC locally:

Where is FoodHD, Lifetime HD (I think they meant that Lifetime Movie HD channel) and History HD?
(Wow, it's not me anymore :D ).

Many other inquiries ask when USAHD will become available and I tell them it's probably not for some time.
Since TWC corporate did not "pen" a deal with it and it's not in any list as coming from any location I can find, it's definitely not coming.

Then, for example, I mention the problem that exists already with the National Geographic Channel HD being available only in Hawaii from TWC:
So they ask who has it and I tell them: Most other competitors!

Then, they get really quiet about all of this and ask about these "other competitors" (I make website lists)...sorry TWC!;)

I bet there was a bit of a grin on your face!!:D :D

gparris

You betcha:
Common practice with HDTV setups,  outside of offering options for size of screen based on seating distance, speaker setup (and number of), AVR, DVD (incl. high def) and other considerations -  is HD programming source choices.

What I do is offer a customized chart of each competitor, based on:
1) What is available in their area for providers.
2) Their current status (ex: if the have trees in the way, live in a condo, an antenna already on their roof).

I do this for them and update it like I do the high def disc players thread in this forum, but it's on a by-case basis and only if they ask for it.

Some are quite happy to change their dish configuration if they have one along with an updated sat box
- and their providers are more-than-happy to do it for them.:D

The biggest question lately, what with all the HDTVs being sold and setup (or about to be) that I get is:
Why does TWC have so few HD channels vs. what is advertised about the others, particularily Directv and AT&T's U-Verse?

That's why TWC locally should add whatever is available from TWC nationally - and soon.:D

gparris

Previously, it was stated that only TWC Hawaii got the chance to get National Geographic Channel HD - but today, that's all changed.
NYC has it now, along with other HD channels that we still don't get here.

So make that TEN more HD channels we could get this month
- but it is up to the local TWC managers to make it happen.:D

Still missing locally are the following HD channels that TWC nationally offers:
1.   FoodHD
2.   MHD (MTVHD & CMTHD)
3.   History Channel HD
4.   LifetimeMoviesHD
5.   CNNHD
6.   Golf/Vs.HD
7.   CinemaxHD
8.   StarzHD
9.   TheMovieChannelHD
10. National Geographic Channel HD

Now, if these HD channels could appear in the next few weeks on TWC locally:
I would bet some HDTV owners doing some "fence sitting" wondering to go with other providers, probably wouldn't change, unless they wanted BTN or NFLN, too.

greg210

Face it...The Milwaukee area is getting bent over by TWC both in price and what they offer. If I wasn't topographically challeneged I would switch to sat tomorrow!!!

Greg

gparris

Topographically challenged is what TWC wants to hear, of course, so you demand better from them
- by demanding more HD channels, along with their pricing, which, BTW, is going up after next month.

Satellite holds a respectable margin of total payTV subscribers and it is growing.

It's growing so much, that cablecos have had to upgrade their cable systems and add more and more HD channels.
Here is to hoping that TWC Milwaukee continues to add these other ten HD channels as soon as possible
-just to slow the migration of those who can shift to DirectvHD, DishHD or U-Verse!

gparris

In news from TWC's website posting today, quote:

"to better serve our customers. The following changes are planned:
On December 15, 2007 AOL Music On Demand, channel 1181 and Great American Country On Demand, channel 1182, will no longer be available on the On Demand line-up. On December 31, 2007 Nick Gas on channel 153 becomes The N. On December 27, 2007, the NHL Network will be launched on the Digital Sports Tier, channel 120 and The Word, on Digital Standard, will be moved to channel 125."

This means no more HD channels are currently being added to TWC's lineup that were posted in post #1 are coming to TWC Milwaukee.
(Yes, not even NHL Network HD was mentioned, either!)

What this really means is that the possiblity of those other ten (or any of the ten) additional HD channels that other locations are getting or already HAVE
- will NOT be coming to TWC Milwaukee...what a shame.:(

Now I really can refer any questions, installs or the like to Directv for HD subscriptions with certainty, over TWC's locally-pithy HD channel selection.

Adding only those two HD channels (three, if you count TBSHD) vs. that "10+ HD channels for October"
- from that TWC telemarketer call to Gregg - is just shameful on TWC's part.:bang:
