Coming in November (maybe), what TWC could add (if it wants to)

Of course we know we can go to another provider, but we also know that this is what this board is for, and BTW the board have been absolutely booming, and personally I have had a great time coming on here. I think the real issue is, if you don't like us fussing or complaining about TWC, why are you reading these post? They aren't for you.
As a paying customer I have every right to complain if I'm not happy, but every ones situation is different, so just because we are unhappy with TWC don't mean we can all just call up the Dish Boys and change services. Nothing is ever that easy. Me myself I have ton of TVs, and I have things that I need to do with my money before I've decide to move to a different provider, but I love the idea of coming on here and talk to people of like minds, it's a comfort to know that their are others that have the same, or maybe opposite problems I have. It allow me to make a better decision when the time is right.

Quote from: tencom;42335The reason that TWC doesn't have many HDTV channels is that they have no were to put them. Most of  there bandwidth is used up. Unless they create more bandwidth by dropping analog channels  or spend millions to modify the system to either increase the bandwitdh by converting from a 750 MHZ to above 850 MHZ system or by going to a completely IP switched digital system like UVERSE has.
either way would require a considerably long time to implement and can't be done overnight .
Direct TV was able to accomplish there HD upgrade quite rapidly because it mostly involved just putting up a couple of satellites, whereas cable has to go to each system  indivudally and make the necesary changes. If some posters on this site can't wait for TWC to make the necessary adjustment to there demands then they have the right to change providers and not constantly coming to this site and complaining about the situation.

So a TWC "fanboy" ;)  is complaining about people coming here to complain about TWC.

Imagine that, a Milwaukee HDTV forum where people are coming to post about Milwaukee HDTV, good and bad.

gparris

It will be great to see what those HD channels are like when TWC delivers them, whatever happens this week.
TWC likes to use the phrases of quality, not quantity, so if this is true, whatever comes down the cable "pipe" will be "quality" HD channels, right?

If TWC can at least deliver those "10+ HD channels" this month, before more the HDTV buying "frenzy" hits for the holidays, I can aim some TWC referrals for HD service their way.
The list of post #1 is in no way a Directv, Dishnetwork or even U-Verse count of HD channels, but all of these added together, is a good start.
There is something in that list of HD channels for everyone and it shows that TWC is stepping up to the "HD plate", slowly, which is better than nothing.

Let's become another TWC NC, TX, SC or HI for HD channel lists.

Using TWC's own catch phrases, if the "quantity and quality" of the actual TWC HD channel offerings at those locations is "good enough" for them:
It's good enough for us TWC Wisconsin HD subscribers, right?

Another TWC recent catch-phrase is asking if we watch all those HD channels?
-Yes we do, especially since these are HD (for the most part) and we generally have more HD viewers per household than just one!:D

RLJSlick

Yeah it would be great, but since we haven't heard anything official, only 2nd hand stuff, I'm not so sure we should be that excited. 10 new HD channels would go a long way for me, at least I can make it through winter with a good number of channels. I just don't understand why TWC don't keep us posted on what's going on, just doesn't make sense, especially after the way their name have been dragged in the mud lately. Oh well I guess we will see.

Ricky, those 10 HD channels, including the StarzHD and CinemaxHD would cover me for awhile, unless USAHD and SciFi HD could be added real soon, too.
I think I buy too many high def discs out of disgust with watching stretched, streaky  Starz and Cinemax in SD, honestly.
You start watching the beginning of the movie and the programming starts out with "Available on CinemaxHD" or "StarzHD where available" -  like that.
It stinks, especially with another monthly increase on the latter for 2008.
The spouse would like LifetimeMoviesHD and we both would enjoy the channels of FoodHD & HGTVHD along with History Channel HD, too.:D
Time will tell if TWC delivers and soon, I hope.

Time Warner adds two HD channels

Time Warner Cable is adding two high-definition channels to its lineup starting next Wednesday: HGTV on HD on Channel 537 and A&E HD on Channel 542.

Too little too late 4 me!

RLJSlick

My wife love HGTV so that would be cool , I don't watch A&E as much as i use too, but I wouldn't mind it, I bet I would watch it more the MOJO :)
History Channel HD and National Geo is what I really would like to see.

Tim C. seems to have some TWC insider information, at least that's my "theory" when he knows about HD channels coming in on TWC before these happen.:D
As for History HD and National Geographic HD, yes, I'm right there with you, Ricky.
However:
It's sort of odd though, as HGTVHD and FoodHD always seem to come together at the same time, just as A&EHD and MHD did with every other TWC location that got them.
Instead, TWC Wisconsin adds "half of each pair", it seems, like they can't accomplish the whole "job" (big surprise).:(
New HD channels are always welcome, but in regard to those "10+ HD channels" the TWC telemarketer was hawking (like snake oil), with TBSHD and these two new ones...we're still seven HD channels behind.

But...November is still not half over (yet)...so we're "staying tuned": Literally!:D

Maybe I missed it but did Tim mention DirecTV in his column when they added new HD channels this fall?  If he didn't I would wonder why does a measly two new HD channels merit  a free pimp but 70 doesn't.

I guess it could be the standard JS company line that "A lot more people have TWC".  They probably said that about the horse and buggy when autos were new.

Couldn't find it, quite actually, anywhere, but it is what it is, reporting wise.
Every reporter has their "comfort zone".
While not everyone can successfully put up a dish, satellite TV delivery has been around for dozen years or more and subscriber numbers in the millions, it's quite odd.

As for "horse and buggy" with the way TV delivery technology is rapidly advancing, TWC should get "going" before it gets categorized in this way, due to its slow advancement of HD channel additions in this HDTV "era".

Today, TWC locally is showing in its website listing for channel lineups the following HD channels-new for November:

HGTV HD on channel 537

A&E HD on channel 542

This is all you get folks (so far), from those "10+ HD channels in October".
If you see what most other TWC locations deliver when these two HD channels are launched locally, we are still missing the following six:

1) FoodHD
2) MHD
3) History Channel HD
4) Lifetime Movies HD
5) CNN HD
6) Golf/Vs. HD
These are those so-called "Free HD Channels" requiring no premium subscriptions.

The following HD channels are also still missing locally:

7)StarzHD
8) CinemaxHD

Both of which have been in most TWC systems for over a year now and more !
Recently, this premium has been added in more and more systems, too:

9) The Movie Channel HD

So with these just two more additions:

TWC locally is still missing 6-9 more HD channels.

Where are these missing HD channels, TWC Wisconsin?

RLJSlick

That's too bad that they only added those few channels, now don't get me wrong I glad they did, but they could have healed a lot of bad feeling towards them if they would have blown us away with 10 NEW HD CHANNELS right away. Oh well it is TWC, couldn't expect too much from them.

Ricky, think locally-only for TWC :
Others drop all 8-10 HD channels all at once, not "piecemeal" like here.:(
TWC squeezed in that TBSHD for baseball, but it is not a good example of what a HD channel should be:
It is worse than TNTHD, IMO.

TWC here is like the guy who brings roses to his wife, (for example):
As he travels home, he has a dozen in his hand (TWC national HD channel offerings).
But by the time he gives them to her- he has only a couple left in his hand, without any reason (the two HD channels today).
Maybe TWC couldn't deliver FoodHD with HGTVHD, so it added A&EHD, instead (that looked nicer, a prettier "rose").
Our household is waiting for History ChannelHD (would be TWC channel 539) and the Lifetime Movies HD channel (possibly TWC channel 536 since 565 is too far down).

The only reason I can think of is for these one-or-two at a time additions, is because TWC locally is short on bandwidth space.
It needs to find the equivalent of 4 more analogue channels to insert those other 8-12 HD channels into our local TWC system to put these in
-or find a way to implement SDV on a few dozen digital SD channels, too, but it won't tell us consumers (subscribers) that, will they?

Directv will say, for example, that until the D11 satellite goes up and is operational, some HD LiLs won't be in place:
While this is not great news, at least D* tells its subscribers...something.

He's in the media, so TWC obviously lets him know so that he can give them some free advertising.
