Coming in November (maybe), what TWC could add (if it wants to)

Since October is over and November is already here, I did some research looking at other TWC locations.
The following HD channels can be offered from TWC as follows, based on what I have found:
1)  A&E HD
2)  MHD (MTVHD)
3)  History Channel HD
4)  Lifetime Movies HD
5)  HGTV HD
6) Food Network HD
7)  Golf/Vs. HD
8)  CNN HD
These are the so-called "Free HD Channels" since these aren't part of the HD Package or Premium Service.

Additionally, most TWC locations are adding (or already have) as HD premium channels the following:
9)   NHL HD (usually with Sports Package)
10) StarzHD
11) CinemaxHD
12)The Movie Channel HD
-Only in Hawaii (for some unexplained reason)...13) National Geo Channel HD

Note #1: From what I have researched, The Movie Channel HD is being offered/added when Cinemax HD and possibly, StarzHD has already been added to the TWC area.

Note #2: That the first 8-9 HD channels are the HD channels offered most recently into TWC areas, along with the other 2 HD premium channels (TMC and Starz), which seem to be almost automatic additions. TBSHD would have been the 10th (it was the first), as in "10+ Channels for October".
-NHL HD and CNNHD are appearing more and more with programming change notices in local launch areas of TWC.

Note #3: Channels A&EHD and MHD, along with CinemaxHD and StarzHD have been in many TWC locations for well over a year now
-but of course, not in Wisconsin TWC.

The point being made here is, if you want to "vision" what a good TWC location can offer (if it wants to), these are the current "crop" of HD channels that are being offered by TWC when the location(s) decides to add them.
October's telemarketer call about "10+ HD channels in October" was wrong, at least for TWC Wisconsin, but that did not mean that other TWC areas didn't get it.:)

While these HD channel additions from TWC are in no way close to what even what Comcast (or other cablecos)
offer now or are are planned (advertised to subs as "coming soon"),
- it is a better start than what TWC here in Wisconsin subs are getting for similar pricing.

While this is a cable-only comparison, the HD channel total is still way down from what either satellite company is offering.:(

Again, it's a start.:D

Not being a TWC customer anymore I'm not sure how their whole system works.  Does each individual franchise have to negotiate to carry each HD channel?  It's not a nationwide thing?  If that is indeed how it works why is Milwaukee so far behind other cities?  Forget being behind DirecTV, why are they so far behind other TWC cities?

gparris

Yes, each individual franchise that uses the TWC logo such as Wisconsin offers services and products based on negotiations done locally.
The "mindset" of the management at TWC Wisconsin I believe is very narrow and not very "HD friendly" vs. other TWC locations.

-That is why TWC Wisconsin (locally) does not offer as many HD channels, be these named or advertised as "free" or "premium" HD channels (or whatever).
TWC Wisconsin chooses not to offer any of the twelve or so listed in post #1 as other locations already do - or - are about to do:
Again, it depends on the local "mindset" of the TWC local managers, no matter where in the country TWC franchises are located.
-We just happen to be in Wisconsin and we have no other options available to us outside of satellite unless you live in a U-Verse area (and TWC knows that).

What gives their franchise the most (as per their reasons, business-wise) "return" is the what and why behind it all.
-That is why TWC Wisconsin is for the most part, last on the list to get anything new and this includes HD channel additions.:(

Honestly, now, this is TWC Wisconsin, but any(thing) can change if it wants to, right?

If TWC Wisconsin gets its "act together" before the end of November (or this year)
-TWC HD subs could get, for example, what these locations have available, right now:

Texas: http://www.timewarnercable.com/SanAntonio/Products/Cable/hdtv/channels.html
North Carolina:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/PiedmontTriad/programming/freehd.html
South Carolina:
http://www.timewarnercable.com/SouthCarolina/products/HDTVAvailableChannels.html
Same goes for most of the NYC "boroughs" and Hawaii TWC.

Just thought I would show the newest HD channel selection other locations are getting and we here in Wisconsin, could get sometime soon.
With that new TWC 2008 price increase coming soon, it would be great to know that we as HD subscribers
-are getting better value as a subscriber than we are now with these added HD channels.

Either that, or you could find yourself a "deal" with Directv or Dishnetwork and even, U-Verse, if their system is your area and it works for you.:D

My son lives in a Time Warner area in Ohio and it looks like they are just as HD challenged as you are in WI.  Here is their HD lineup:

701 Showtime High Definition
711 WTOL Toledo, Ohio. (CBS)
713 WTVG Toledo, Ohio. (ABC)
724 WNWODT Toledo, Ohio. (NBC)
727 WBGUDT Bowling Green, Ohio. (PBS)
736 WUPWDT Toledo, Ohio. (FOX)
750 Discovery HD Theater
751 TNT HD
757 FSN HD
758 Sports Time Ohio HD
760 MOJO
762 HDNet
763 HDNet Movies
765 ESPN-HD
766 ESPN2 High Definition
780 Universal HD

gparris

Yup, same short HD channel list as TWC Wisconsin for Ohio, but we have TBSHD, now...WOW!

Waukegan, IL has Comcast, you have many more HD channels than we have, don't you (including HD premiums)?

My in-laws live southeast of you in Chicago and they brag about the newest Comcast HD channels the got, sort of irritating, since I live on the border.

Aren't some (including Chicagoland) Comcast locations getting ready to launch USAHD and/or Sci-Fi HD to their lineup, too?

WOW, the selection Comcast has, outside of not offering HDNET (as my cousins have in Houston, TX, formerly a TWC area , grandfathered in), is awesome.
Thanks for the list, I could have looked at my relative's cable card list, but it would have made me angry with them present.

I can pick several favourites in HD I want already, some that other TWC areas have got recenly and not-so-recently.:D

What DOES it take for TWC Wisconsin to get off its butt and deliver more HD channels now that Directv is offering so many DOZENS of them?

Regional Competition.

Look how long it took them to upgrade the Road Runner speed here, while other TW regions with competition were eight months ahead of us. If U-verse wasn't in the Milwaukee area, we'll still have the old speed.

TW is always slow to act. Eventually, TW will catch up with DirecTV. How long, who knows?

Competition has never been as tough as it has been lately...even here (regionally).
When Directv first came about in the mid-1990's, cable was satisfied with its then-pithy channel lineup and poor picture, even for the analogue-only sets that existed.
Directv offered more selection and a better picture, but even then it didn't drop 70+channels all at once as it recently has - that has to have more impact now.

Dishnetwork, too, continues to "wow" with its channel selection, free DVR (and excellent one, BTW) and great deals along the way.

U-Verse is making some inroads to the Milwaukee area, too, so there is more competition than ever before.

If TWC Wisconsin (NE for Green  Bay and SE for Milwaukee) continues to ignore the growing base of HDTV owners and its current HD subscribers, those subscribers will "find a way" to leave TWC for (HD)TV support, just like they did ten years ago.
Honestly, I don't believe that these subscribers won't be as slow to react, like TWC has been here locally with its HD channel additions.

Once a new satellite subscriber gets their dish up, cables run and box installed, what makes TWC think any of them will really come back then?:D

UPDATE:
Well, I guess its up to those TWC subscribers that are "on the fence", waiting for more HD channels to appear from our local TWC system
- to at least add what other locations around the country are getting now or very soon to get off that fence and make a decision to either:
1) Call up Dishnetwork (E*) or Directv (D*) for HD service, unless U-Verse is available, too.

2) Continue to wait for TWC to "wake up" since it's going to be 2008.

Understand, TWC Milwaukee, there are literally millions of HDTVs, sitting in subscribers' homes!
-Yes, TWC, even in MILWAUKEE !!!

So if you think that we will have those new HD channels listed in post #1 as additions from TWC Wisconsin (Milwaukee) before 2008 (when the rate hike starts)
-think again.

The whole point of this thread is to show what actual HD channels are available from TWC, once a TWC location gets its "act together"
and it offers ten or more HD channels - all at once.
-All at once, as in not "one or two at a time" as we get here in Wisconsin, probably for a year at a time.:bang:

I think this is a mis-print, since I don't see it in the channel guide.
Quote from website:

"Effective November, 1, 2007 Home & Garden TV in HD, channel 537 and A&E HD, channel 542 will be added to the Time Warner Cable High Definiton lineup. On 12/14/07 AOL Music On Demand, channel 1181 and Great American Country On Demand, channel 1182, will no longer be available on the On Demand line-up."
Channel 537 and 542?
This is November 8th!
Oh, well, anyone see these?:D
Anyway, with HGTVHD (channel 537), FoodHD (channel 567) usually comes right along and with A&EHD (channel 542), most locations send MHD (channel 546 to replace INHD2) with it, too.

While we're "at it":
VS./Golf HD channel 528? Where is it?
History HD (channel 539)? Where is it?
Lifetime Movies HD (channel 565)? Where is it?
Other locations sprouted HistoryHD and LifetimeMoviesHD, also, so where are these other HD channels?
Missing is still CinemaxHD, The Movie Channel HD, too, but pleeeeze....
-can we PLEASE get StarzHD, (channel 511) now that you TWC folks are raising the monthly rate to $11 a month???

Dont hold your breath.  I just switched to DTV(first time ever on sat, been with TWC for 7 years).

I called to cancel my service with TWC.  They tried to convince me not to switch.  I said TWC doesn't offer anywhere near the amount of HD that DTV does.  They said true but Sattelites loose signal and break up all the time and we have much better service.  I kind of snickered and asked if TWC Milwaukee was planning on adding any HD channels soon and they flat out told me no......  They didn't even try and lie and say oh yeah ummmm we are adding lots very soon.....

I just got off an online chat with a TWC-Mil CSR.  (I am paraphrasing to make this an easier read).

She effectively said dates can change and there is no explanation she can offer.

I also asked about the lack of HD programming and she effectively said that they believe in Quality over Quantity.  She said they woudl rather put out HD channels that are worthwhile rather can just put out HD channels to increase the volume of channels offered.

I asked who THEY were to decide what I deemed "worthwhile" or not and why other TWC areas in the country offered a chunk more than TWC Milwaukee did, she skirted my question and she did say that the two channels, HGTV-HD and A&E-HD are slated to begin for us on 11/14/07.

I asked for her specific employee info and she declined.  I just stated that I wanted someone to be held accountable for spewing out dates for ONCE at TWC and she just stated that programming dates can change and there is nothing she can do about it.

Basically, they can say whatever they want to say with zero reprocussions.

I wish I could do that in my job.

gparris

Mikey: Thanks for the call to TWC Milwaukee.
Yes, it would be great to never be accountable for anything said or stated in your job, honestly.

Still, I notice the web site has not yet changed for the (new) date yet, so maybe they are going to change it -  if they "feel" like it.

NYC Woodside and Queens (borough) are adding the following statement to their lineup:
"We will launch M HD on ch. 720, History HD on ch. 740, A&E HD on ch. 746, Food HD on ch. 750, Lifetime Movies HD on ch. 762, HGTV on ch. 764, and TMC HD on ch. 778, VS HD on ch. 794 and NHL HD on ch. 795."

So quality and quantity MATTER to TWC in NYC area, but it's different for TWC Milwaukee-only?
...so I ask again:
WHERE are the new HD channels of History HD, MHD, FoodHD, Vs. HD and Lifetime MoviesHD in addition to TheMovieChannelHD, CinemaxHD & StarzHD (last two NYC has already)?

That whole line about "quality and quantity" is "typical" TWC Milwaukee BS
...another one of their deceptions.
