Why only 7 days in advance for the TWC guide?  This is very irritating as there are many times I want to schedule a program that is 10 days or so in advance but can't. :bang:

Once you're "upgraded" to Navigator, you'll get a 14 day guide.

I have heard about all sorts of problems with Navigator.  Is it now running smoothly with eSATA drives?

We have been on Navigator for a while now and certainly do not have 14 day guide.

I have had pretty smooth sailing with my SA 8300 Passport program guide.  The one thing is that sometimes when you press B for your main title themes:  (i.e MOVIES, SPORTS, FAMILY, SERIES/SPEC) that the right hand side of the screen will be "missing" program times within the main category.  You have to scroll by theme to the subcategory (i.e press B, than up/down arrow.) OR do a C Keyboard search to find the "missing" movie.  A reboot brings the times back under the main category whether it is initiated by the user or TWC for about a week. (or until any next reboot.)

Here is an example:  Suppose The Godfather were playing this month on HBO.  and one of the times was Tues at 12:30 am.  If this glitch is present when you press B and keep pressing B for MOVIES (all caps) sometimes Tuesday's time data will be missing and they won't show the new data until a new day say Friday at 12:AM is when the main categories are listed.  Go to B, select movies, and than go to Crime or Drama, and all the data will be there starting at least two hours back with the dots next to the data indicating that the show is playing now.  It stays like that until there is a reboot.  Note that this bug can occur with any main theme B category, not just MOVIES.

The only other thing with my Passport Guide is that on two occasions for about 1-2 weeks duration, the Caller ID on TV. (I also have Digital Phone) banner would either not show up or shrink to an unreadable size.  In this case, a reboot does nothing to solve the problem,  It is something that they have to fix (and have fixed) at the head-end.

With Navigator expected to be on ALL THE BOXES (including non C DVR's) for Metro Milwaukee areas by the end of March, it is doubtful that TWC will be doing any more updates to the Passport software to fix these bugs.  Perhaps changes over to Navigator are affecting the Passport Guide data, but they are occurring behind the scenes, likely a little at a time, which might explain this guide behavior.  But as far as recording, playback, scheduling, Navigation, remote responses, everything has always worked fine.

Does the Navigator "upgrade" blow away stored programs?  If so, can I refuse the update until I watch/archive the shows?

You're right.. I didn't bother checking mine.  TWC lies again:

How many days of data are available in the TWC Navigator™ Program Guide?
The Program Guide allows viewers to scroll up to 14 days in the future and two hours back from the current time, in 30-minute increments.

The information in the Navigator guide is also lacking compared to the Passport guide.  Descriptions are smaller and they don't list much cast information.

Yes you will lose all stored recordings,

I think I recall only 1 person that lucked out and said they didn't.  (I don't know the truth of this however.) The reason why is because they literally have to change the database over to the new system from old to new.  You will need to reprogram things like your Favorite Channels, Banner Duration, Box Volume, and so forth.  If anyone doesn't have to do this-please let us know.

Unfortunately, you have no control in refusing the change over as (for us at least) I heard it is being done by a box model basis.  You'll likely receive either a mail brochure  or automated phone call about 2-3 days (or less) when the transition happens.  They will generally do it sometime between 4-6 am on the night in question, although I heard that any time after midnight is fair game.

I heard that the box will load a bunch of letter/number sequences onto the LCD readout where the clock usually is.  It will say something like F-1 or L-1 or Load-1 and the box will count  slowly from 1-100 taking about an hour, maybe more, maybe less.  (This is what my old Pioneer box did when it got a daylight savings time patch.  People said this is also what happens when Navigator loads.)

The box will reach 100, go through a series of boot cycles and than when the correct time comes back on the box and you turn the box on, you will have Navigator.  The first thing that you should do is open the Guide, and scroll.  check the "feel and "response" of the guide and your remote.  Then press B to check the Find Shows menu and practice using the arrow keys observing how the categories are organized on the top and bottom of the screen.  Press the Exit Button.  Now Press A for Settings.  Set your banner duration, check your audio settings, adjust them to match the sound settings of your TV, do the same thing for your video settings if necessary.  Now go to Favorite Channels and set those up.  Than Exit to go back to watching TV.
