Quote from: flash;41607I was close to pulling the trigger when Sam's was running the Sony 60A2020 for $1987 including the stand but then the A3000's came out with 120 Hz etc.....
I've got a 42 Samsung plasma in the bedroom and love that picture but 60+" plasma is out of my price range right now. The new Mits 65833 doesn't have the rainbow effect (from what I've been reading at AVS etc.. and I'd get an extra 5" of viewing screen.
I have way too much ambient light in my family room (where the new TV will reside) so front projectors are out of the question. My current Sony has issues during daylight with the blinds open. :bang:
We sit between 8-12 feet from the screen so that's why I'm staying away from 70+" TV's. We watch TW cable so analog tv is what it is so no matter how good the tv is....... most of what we watch is going to look like $h!$%.
I enjoy my shows when they're on the HD channels and that is growing ('cmon Uverse and get to Muskego!)

Overall, I've been pretty patient waiting for over a year to buy my next HDTV and I know that I can't wait another year or two till laser prices come down.......... or OLED...... or (insert next technology here)

Seems as though you will wait until you finally make a decision.
Every technology has its good points and its bad, though nothing is perfect, but it can be close enough to work for you, if you try.
-Good luck with your quest!

After reading my last post my frustration came out sounding too much like whining and I apologize for that.

What are some of the features that everyone loves about their current TV or what features do you wish your TV had?

I tend to watch TV at night and I wish my remotes were backlit.

What features do you wish your TV had?

Function-wise, I wish my TV did a better job with banding.  It's not usually noticeable on HD sources, but is almost always evident on SD material.  My projector does a much better job with this than my TV does.

I would also like better blacks, which a dynamic iris would probably help with.

Other features I'd like would be separate picture settings by input (to adjust for the differences between different source components), more than a single HDMI input, and a quieter fan.

Features I have and really like:  on/off switch for speakers (turning the volume all the way down doesn't always silence them), user-nameable inputs, selectable color temperature, and lens shift (projector feature vital for flexible placement).

As far as remotes go, do yourself a favor and buy a nice universal remote, preferable one that's backlit, can learn, and you can program so it should never be obsolete.  I've been using a Universal Remotes MX-700 for three or four years now, and absolutely love it.  It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny.

Quote from: SRW1000;41604No, you're not weird.  I've always preferred the look of rear-projection to plasmas.  The screen door effect was too noticeable, and the picture just didn't seem that vivid.  I will admit they are looking better, though.

And I do like LCDs (but not rear projection LCD sets).

Screen door effect will be things of the past with the availability of 1080P sets.  Some people see SDE on RPTV too. Go figure.:)

I have both, my plasma looks much better than my RPTV and no SDE on either.

Quote from: gparris;41586Samsung offers a great looking DLP LED set in a 61" size that does not require any bulbs to burn out (20,000+life) or a colour wheel to breakdown and replace and of course, no "rainbows".

This is good to know.  On the website it says the chance of rainbows is greatly reduced.  Have you known anyone who could see them with LED DLP?  I can see them with regular DLP and have since stopped considering that technology for future purchases.  However if the LED DLP truly solves the rainbow issue, then I will consider this for my future purchase.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention gparris.

SRW1000:
My Pronto remotes I have are mostly touch-screen, the first one I got with my first HDTV set in 2000, the TSU1000 and it is been a good companion for one of my HT setups in the house.
The other one is not black and white, the TSU7000, it is all-colour, has a better interface, more options and I can match the remotes to it better.
On both, I can actually "design" my button shapes and mimic the original remotes' layout (or improve on them) on its screen, including adding macros.

Bebop:
SDE is easy to see if the viewer is too close to the view screen, but the newest Sony 1080p LCD sets are harder to see any SDE at all, you are correct.
I tend to notice SDE on 720p plasma sets, too, if I stand or sit closer than double the diagonal measurement from the screen.

StarvingForHDTV:
You're welcome, glad to help. Visiting a local BB recently I took some time to view that Samsung LED DLP and tried really hard to even imagine the RBE and couldn't:
It didn't make its presence known, but I didn't get to try different source material, either.
As a suggestion, I would read avsforums about this brand and series of display from other users/viewers inputs, too, for their take on these before you buy.
