Hey folks,

Just thought I would share some of the progress of our new HT we're building in the basement. It's getting close to wrapping up. We'll be painting the finished walls over the next few days. Furniture and carpet are yet to be delivered and installed in the next week or so. You can view a pictorial history of the construction here:

Mann Theater

We'll be using a Panny AX100U and a Carada 118" screen. I'll be using the sound gear I had previously and that's outlined here.

WE CAN'T WAIT!  :)

Well, there's still time for that. But you better get a planning though. Winter is on it's way.

Thanks for looking and for the comments!

Nice, and nobody has to worry about seeing rainbows.

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand about the 'rainbows'? Are you referring to the rainbow effect exhibited on some projection equipment? Or, was it something about a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?  :)

WOW...looks fantastic.  Everything looks like it is coming together great, and wont be too long till you are enjoying movies in your private theater.

We are also in the middle of a basement renovation, putting in two bedrooms, a rec room, full bathroom, and an office. I really wanted a dedicated theater room, but we have already run over budget (it's funny how going with one thing a little higher priced than another can add up very quickly) so I have absolutely no money for funiture or equipment now....might have to wait till tax return time.
I can totally understand the whole "blood, sweat, and tears" that goes into this kind of commitment.

Anyways, looking excellent, and I know you will be having an incredible time for may cold winter nights to come.....

Thanks! That's what we're hoping. All was going along perfectly until just today. The carpet we ordered is going to be about 2 weeks late. :( Oh well, it's the last thing to be done, but now we'll be waiting to set up all the speakers and furniture until it comes.

We painted the entire theater with a dark gray primer tonight so our black ceiling and burgundy walls will hopefully cover better and stay true to color. I've updated the pics at the link in the first post.

I know what you mean about adding things to the project. We started out pretty simple and added a few things here and there. It adds up VERY quickly. But, it sounds like you've got a great basement remodel going. It's going to be a very used part of the house when it's done, I bet. Lots of extras in there already compared to what we're doing. You should post some pics.

Later!

I and some other people see rainbows with DLP products.  You went with LCD instead.  I like that decision.

Enjoy your theater!

Ahh... Got it. Right, some see that effect and I think I have noticed it in the past on some DLP systems I've checked out. That was just another plus of the Panny when I was doing comparisons. It just seem to win in just about all categories, including ones that are normally not favorably for LCD. Screen door effect is one example. I can hardly see this effect even if I walk within 4 feet of the screen.

Hey folk...

Found a great buy on theater seats here locally (Fond du Lac actually). Got four of these at $75 each. They should look pretty sweet in the new theater when it's done.

If anyone is interested, the person still has 15 more they're trying to sell. Post back or PM and I'll get you their contact info.

Wow, that is a great price.  It's hard to tell from the photo, but are these new or used?  Either way, they look really nice.

Congratulations on a great-looking set up.

Thanks! Yeah, I forgot to mention, they were used. They look like brand new and I doubt they were used very often if at all. I don't know if they are, but they look like the Ruby Marquee from here.

Thanks! It's getting there. We put the first coat of a Bellagio Faux finish on the walls last night. It looks pretty good so far, but will get even better after the next coat. Updated pics are in the link in my sig.

I though about going with a low profile drop ceiling in my HT. I decided on just drywalling it instead. Sounds like I made a good decision. :-)  Good luck with your project!
