TWC at other locations always show channels such as 502 even though these aren't on exception being last night for what was it...boxing PPV?

If TWC Milwaukee wants to brag about HD channel totals, it should only be regarding full-time network subscription HD channels, not 500 (HDPPV), 502 or even 531 (FOX Sports Net HD almost never on). Otherwise it is a deception, IMO.

Lately, I get clients/family/friends that ask me why these oddball HD channels are never on and even why the HDPPV is even there with its very limited selection.

So I now tell them that TWC has actually 17 HD channels you can tune to if you have the DigiPic 2000 package with HBOHD and ShowtimeHD and the very limited (now) HD package to maximize their HD channel selection and that is what they (usually) do.

Heck, I don't tell them what other TWC locations around the country offer, they might freak out on me.

I totally agree GP, trying to explain to a newbie all this is hard enough, but to have TWC being deceitful is really hard to explain to a person that ask me "do I need the HD package from TWC".
At this point I really can't recommend TWC HD package, because I think TWC need to be more forthcoming and clear about what is really a "HD Channel" and what is not.  Maybe they should drop the whole HD title and just call them digital channels, and be done with it.
As far as 531 Fox Sports, don't even get me started on that one! :bang:

RLJSlick:
Thanks, I don't understand why they would lump 507 as an HD channel when it of course, isn't nor does this broadcaster ever broadcast in HD on this channel or even OTA.
Why 507 is out there since it is an analogue channel to begin with is deceptive on TWC's part and has been for some time.

On the other side of this...look at WPXE channel 15, why not make it 515, too?

There are other analogue channels in the lower-numbered channels that should get the same preferred "treatment"
Why should Milwaukee channel 7 on TWC get such favoured treatment and not others?

wireblsam

I believe it is because channel 7 in Kenosha is WLS out of Chicago, and that's why WMLW is 507 in that area.

Doesn't clear up the HD part of it though....

507 isn't mapped to WMLW for me...  but, just to make it clear, WMLW *is* digital, just not HD (it's OTA on CBS 58's subchannel)

Whatever...still no excuse for inserting Channel 507 in the middle of the HD channels and now, deceptively, listing it as a HD channel on TWC's two webpages!
It's just wrong...period.:bang:

RLJSlick

Lucky we under it being digital but that is still no reason to add it to the HD lineup, and GP I under exactly why TWC would do that, let's just say it give them a more filling lineup. Same reasons that joke of a station 531 is still there, for it's cameo appearance once in a while.
I think it's time for another letter to TWC. By now I'm sure they delete my emails as soon as they see my name. LOL

Well, to play devil's advocate... yes, I see that it is indeed listed on the channel grid as "HDTV." However...

As currently setup, all the digital broadcast channels are currently grouped in the 500 range. If Time Warner WERE to in fact map WMLW-DT to a cable channel, where else would they put it but with the rest of the digital broadcast channels? 507 would seem to be the logical location for it, despite not actually having the capability to present HD programming.

I don't think it's any nefarious scheme on the part of Time Warner Cable to deceive customers. I mean, they don't in fact carry WMLW on 507, probably because some people would complain that it's a channel in the "HD" block that doesn't carry any HD. Nor do they actually include WMLW in any of the marketing materials aside from the channel grid. The brochures and ads might have included 18 and 24 when in fact they weren't carried until now, but never has WMLW been shown that I've seen.

You are entitled to your opinion, but HD is HD and it IS a deception on TWC's part...period.

UPDATE:
TWC website shows channel 507 as a digital channel, but no longer a HDTV channel...good job TWC and thank you!
http://www.timewarnercable.com/CustomerService/CLU/TWCCLUs.ashx?ChannelFilter=All&CLUID=78&Zip=&SortByPackage=true
Just one note: Universal HD channel 532 should be listed in the HD Package instead, to eliminate any confusion...thank you.

Additionally, in TWC's HDTV site for HDTV channel listings, channel 507 has been eliminated from the time 518 and 524 (the newest HD channels in the TWC lineup) were added originally....thanks, TWC!

(Could you, TWC, PLEEEZZZE get CinemaxHD and StarzHD, soon?)

I had about 3 of my 5 QAM channels disappear on me last night when watching TV after 10 PM. I would just get a blank screen with no picture.

......I can't complain 'cause my QAM HD is free. ;)

Now all that Channels 18 and 24 need to replace some studio equipment like video players to broadcast any syndicated fare and movies right from their studio in High-Def.

Thou most broadcasters don't have that yet, I suppose its probably beyond their budget for the time being.  They already have loans to pay off the upgrading to digital transmission.

I lost track of time tonight while watching the Cub game on my OTA HDHR and my recording fell back to my QAM HDHR.  This recording was not in HD.  I believe it is set to 116:18.  Is the CW HD station on TWC QAM on a different channel?  I checked and the channel that I have for MNTV seemed to be HD.  I've used WGN and WPWR in the past for recording CWHD so I never tested the channel before tonight.  Do I have the wrong channel mapped?  Thanks.

Tom

116.18 is correct.  The HD encoder for 18 failed, so it's being broadcast in 480i for now.  http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7186

Thanks for the info.  I'll keep on recording WGN until further notice.
