Got A Great Discount From TWC

I had problems with my RR service today so I had to call their service department. I got a great customer rep that helped me resolve it. At the end of the call she said let me take a quick look at the services you currently have with us. I was expecting the big pitch to add cable phone service which is the only thing I don't have with them.

Instead to my surprise she said I see you have HD service with us and I think I can offer you some discounts. She then stated that she could give me my HD service for free and waive my DVR and other set box fees for 12 months. She also said that she could also discount my premium movie channels and digipack charges as well. When all was said and done I ended up saving $50 a month off my regular cable bill.

I am thinking this may be an attempt by TWC to save HD customers who may be thinking of switching to Direct TV when all the additional HD channels become reality.  I am extremely happy with this gesture on their part because frankly I have been getting fed up with their price increases with little HD additions (ESPN2) to show for it.  If they could only get swtiched digital video implemented in Milwaukee soon and start adding some more HD channels I would be as happy as a clam.

Switched video is already implemented.  They just need to get more channels on the switched side... ESPN2HD and about 4 or 5 SD digital channels are switched.  Once they do that though, cablecard's basically dead (I'm one of the few that uses it).  They may be waiting til 2.0 comes out til they roll out more switched channels.  It would be helpful if they could get rid of analog channels completely, but that won't happen for a really long time.

The problem with TWC is you have to keep calling and threatening to leave to get the good rates.  I finally got fed up with them and switched to uverse.  I now have the top tier uverse package for the same price as I was getting with just HBO at TWC.  And I get about twice the channels and 3 boxes instead of just one with TWC.  I had no complaints with TWC service but their billing and poor business tactics pushed me away, so much so I actually chose AT&T over them.

You got a discount alright, a discounted amount of HD channels vs. other providers :) On a serious note, congrats on the discounts you got. It is rare that you get so much for having to fight so little.

OK, discount. Wait for what, almost nothing in HD. Thank you, will never be interested in such discounts.

Getting a knowledgeable TWC CSR is like a lottery win-usually never.
Getting a CSR that gives a HD subscriber discounts without a battle-almost priceless!
Getting one to assist me no matter how nice I am and how many times I try-see lottery winning odds (as in Powerball wins)...never.

The best win of all, since you (and all of us) already have discounted service at inflated prices with TWC Milwaukee HD service
-is more HD channel additions (like that's going to happen).

Honestly, now, outside of some old contract battle with Sinclair for rarely-on HD programming channels 518 & 524
(so TWC Milwaukee can truly brag about offering all the HD locals), what real national HD channel additions have we had?

ESPN2HD? (That's all folks)
After how long a wait time? Very long.

Are you sure the discount was enough?

I am certainly as frustrated as any other TWC for lack for HD additions. I have gotten so fed up that I looked into other provider options. I was ready to switch to Direct TV however my neighbors huge tree impeded any chance for dish mounting. U Verse is not available in my area of town.  Fios TV may be years away from being in Milwaukee or maybe never. So like it our not TWC is my only choice.  Therefore receiving a 30% reduction in my cable bill without even asking for I dont think is a bad deal.  I am certainly not a satisfied customer with TWC but I would think it would be hard to find anyone who doesn't like to save money.

I am very glad you got a discount and if I knew the name and number of that specific rep you got to get a discount, I'd be thankful for the reduction.
Even that amount on my bill would be only less than half in percentage for me that you got, but I have all their services on one bill, so its a huge bill.
If D* could only work out a deal with CBS58 for HD carriage, it would be awesome, as having both for service providers (2 HD DVRs to each HDTV setup) would be prohibitively expensive.;)

Since we're serviced by AT&T, Fios will never be available here.  Verizon is in northern WI, and they're a long ways from getting Fios if at all.

Look, I called Verizon, being in the actual service area for phone/DSL service and I was told that it will not happen, at least not in this decade.

For me, AT&T U-verse is a definite no-go (some technical loop hole holding up my entire county including the city) and as for Verizon FIOS HDTV, forget about it.:(

You have OTA (free, but limited HD selection), TWC HD (with its small, not growing selection of HD channels), or satellite (Dish or Directv) for HD programming options
 - your choice in 2007-Wisconsin.
