I could get by with 1 standard HD and 1 SD Directv receiver, then 2 HD DVRs based on the way I use them for the most part, but $500 is still a chunk of money and I would still have to have an answer on what antenna to use for CBSHD at the very least and the site does not offer that.
Dishnetwork, for example only, offers the Squareshooter antenna (for asthetic reasons) in my area as an option, though their website does not show FOXHD at all for this model, so I am back where I started.

Your best bet would be to call and ask about prices switching from cable to D*.  They usually will roll out the red carpet for new customers.  The going rate on an HD DVR for existing customers was $100 with free install.

I may give a call because as a current cable customer, I am not paying even close to that much up front given that TWC charges nothing up front.  That's still a major selling point for me.  Other than that, I do not have a warm spot for TWC.

Quote from: patnshan;41066I'd love to make the switch from TWC to DTV but I am not willing to pay $400 up front for two new HD DVR's.  If they leased them like TWC, I'd be in.

I know a lot of people have gotten free equipment with no upfront costs. Really all you have to do is call and explain that Cable & Dish Network do not have any upfront costs like that, and usually they will give you a free DVR, not sure about two DVR's, but you might get away with it if you try hard enough. And what I mean by try, is to call back over & over till someone gives you what you want.

I have 2 DVR's and I did not pay for either one. I did get the first one free, and waited 6 months before asking for another one, but it was worth it!
