Quote from: gparris;40784Once again cable hasn't (as of yet) a clue and this time around, satellite is poised to kick some "HD butt"!

Count this TWC subscriber as one who is ready to jump over to the side that "kicks some HD butt" My self proposed switch date is 1/2/08. That is when I make the call if my HD cravings are not satisfied by my current provider. (TWC) From this point on I will be comparing the + and -'s of Dish and Direct TV.

Damn the torpedoes and straight ahead!!!!

Quote from: Tom Snyder;40577Getting close! I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

According to this article: http://www.tvpredictions.com/directvhd082907.htm , 20-40 by the 16th and 70 by the end of the month.

This is the longest Christmas Eve I have ever had!  I keep checking the NORAD radar for those reindeer.  Hurry up Directv!

I'm anxiously waiting myself.  As if the fall premier season arriving shortly isn't enough.  Thank God for TiVo! (Actually DVR).  Even though I don't have TiVo anymore thanks to the HR20, I'm still going to use the term TiVo instead of DVR.

Does anyone know if all the new HD channels will be added to the current HD package or will there be a variety of HD packages at various prices?  I found the site a little confusing at this point.

Current HD package subscribers will be grandfathered in at the current rate (9.99 month).  New customers will have to pay the $9.99 month plus $4.99 HD access for the the new channels from what I've read.

What ever channels you getting now. If there is a HD version you'll have it for free.

I noticed everyone getting the Big Ten, except for the Family package.

For now, I am stuck with TWC.  I do like the channels I have, but want and feel I pay enough to get many more.

The problem I have is that we use four TV's with no cable box.  We like having basic cable on those for no more money.  That will go away if I get DTV or DN.
It will be a non-issue when everything goes digital, as I am not getting boxes for my daughters 13 inch TV's.  They can survive on DVD's.

Anybody else stick with cable because of using some TV's without a box?

By most accounts on DBSTalk they will flip the switch sometime on Wednesday.

I heard SWM will happen the beginning of next year. I have it right now (beta tester) and it's great. Can't wait til Wednesday either!

Another test channel tonight at midnight! 9300 and 9301, and only for 3 hours.

Test channels are still up for anyone with the new dish and receivers!

D* now launched 21 additional channels today, and the PQ is awesome!!

I'd love to make the switch from TWC to DTV but I am not willing to pay $400 up front for two new HD DVR's.  If they leased them like TWC, I'd be in.

$400?:huh?:

I went to the Directv site and attempted to order, just to see what the prices were like for new customers and they wanted $800 upfront with a measly $100 "discount" the first one, but none on the second and third ones.

Then I looked for an antenna that could possibly go with my area that might work and price it, just to get CBS58HD (since Jim Hall and Directv aren't in talks anymore for HD carriage).
-it was a no-go as to what to get and pricing, so I sent them an email on their website telling them how displeased I was with their site for pricing, then I got an invitation for a questionaire that got very irritating.

Once CBSHD is available and possibly, CWHD like my Chicago neighbours get in their so-called DMA, prices may come down more on HD DVRs, but until then...no.:(

It's $500 for two HD DVRs including the $100 discount and you're only leasing the equipment... that's what I get from the site.  Can you buy receivers, or is it all leasing now?

Edit: Guess I found the answer.  You can either buy or lease for $299.  If you lease, you are protected... basically they'll replace your receiver if it breaks.. upgrade if a new receiver comes out?
