Yup I don't even bother to look what's on CBS anymore.  I watch very little SD shows and NONE on 58.  I used to have an antenna but when I upgraded to the slimline and HR-20 last month I took down the antenna.

Screw 58.

Somewhat related:

Mark Belling announced yesterday that he'll no longer be doing his weekly show on CBS58. According to Mark, 58 wanted him and his roundtable members to work for free.

When they refused, 58 decided to cancel the show and are replacing it with an infomercial.

The only good thing about this is starting August 1 my home will be a Nielsen home, so my never watching 58 will  actually affect their numbers, at least a little bit. :)

Although I like listen to Mark while driving home from work, I never watched his CBS58 show, it is in the morning, and usually on Sundays I prefer to look at Sunday paper TV, ads and Sports sections.
Hopefully, D* and CBS58 will strike a deal now, when CBS58 saved some money on Mark show. Maybe in time for my switch to D* from E*, if it happens (only if D* will have more/or better HD selection).

I live in Kenosha as well. And CBS58 is owned by Weigel Broadcasting, who seem to have a problem with Directv receiving HD for some stupid reason.

I've tried two waivers and no luck. I called the station, and they said that you can buy an "Omni-directional" antenna and you should have no problem picking it up.

I went to Radio Shack on 80th St. and they have HD TV's hooked up to rabbit ears and are receiving Milwaukee and Chicago Locals in HD.

Now, he did say sometimes it goes out, but that they also 2 different outdoor antennas for around $50.00. One is a flying saucer looking thing, and the other is nothing more than a rectangular box that mounts just about anywhere.

I might try it some day, but I'm waiting for $$.

I'm really ****ed about missing this past Super Bowl in HD, I don;t want to see another fly past me!

ktk0117, were these Rshack folks on 80th Street certain these rabbit ears were getting CBS2HD and CBS58HD or was it just analogue and the picture looking just okay (was it during primetime)?

CBS2HD is difficult for even some Chicagoans I know to get and Rshack salespeople are not the most knowledgeable, IMO.

Even so, the "box" antenna you mentioned is a Squareshooter antenna that has done quite a good job with many setups I have worked with, so it might even fit the "bill" for you (pun intended) and blend in better, too.:)

CBS58 is doing what it has done all along since the SD Directv situation a few years back and this time, it is not giving in for Directv carriage, unfortunately.

Getting an antenna hookup for maybe just one HD channel is not good, IMO, but hooking it up to a H20 or HR20 (to get it in the guide), not-so-bad and you can probably get CWHD (MKE or CHGO), too.:D

Hmmm, not sure of all the Chicago channels, but I was pretty sure it was an HD signal from CBS 58 in Milw.

I would hook it up to my HR20 for sure so I can have more flex with record 2 shows/watch a show, plus I watch quite a few programs on CBS, although that may change someday!

I'm still trying to get Directv to give me a second HR20 for free for my bedroom. I've been calling, and I think eventually they'll give i!

Maybe you've had some success?

In most cases the installer tries to put the more neighbourhood-friendly square shooter antenna off the pole or chimney with the 5LNB Directv mounting, depending on the situation and aims it towards Milwaukee with success if the home is positioned correctly (no trees, hills, etc.).
Getting one HR20 is great, getting two HR20s (like many actually do for the bedrooom HDTV set), better, getting both for $99 or less: Priceless!
Good luck with calling Directv for that deal...honestly.
Do your second HR20 upgrade soon because when the new sat that went up recently goes live, most installers will be very busy with a backlog of upgrade customers or new ones that are leaving cable for more HD channels!

ktk0117

Yea, I really wnt another HR20, but the best deal they offer, is $100.00 off, then $10.00/month for 10 months ($100.00) leaving me with about $130.00 (after tax & delivery). BUT I have to cough up $230.00, and wait almost a year to get $100.00 back via credits???

No, I'll try calling & calling & calling.

Have you ever heard of this?:

Don;t seem like you have anything to lose, he gives you your $$ back if it don;t work, as some have claimed in his feedback, but it seems "Scammy"

avsforums is the place to check out on this whole upgrade box situation with Directv as it can get messy.
From reading through this section of threads, my opinion of Directv is that to get anything free (or what you want to pay), you have to complain not only once, but many times and to many CSRs there....but it pays off.

As to buying used or whatever, Directv STBs and their access cards have always been a problem for me in the past, so I push for the original deal, no subs, buy from Directv (directly, another pun, sorry).
I would push for $99 plus shipping and ask for to return your older STB in a prepackaged box back to them if they allow it.
