This sounds like a perfect deal for the cable companies.  They get to come in here (Wisconsin), set up shop, not have any local customer service people on staff (just sales) and not worry about their crappy service.

At least now, if you call in and yell enough, you might get free DVR for a month, or a slightly lower rate.  Under this bill, you can call in and yell all you want and it will simply cost you tax dollars.

Huh? This has nothing at all to do with the cable/satellite/etc companies providing customer service - they're of course still going to do so. This bill just basically takes the responsibility of overseeing cable companies out of the hands of the local communities and puts it in the state's hands.

In other words, if you call and complain up a storm about your service and nothing gets done, previously you'd call the city and complain and it'd be one more thing they'd consider when renewing the cable co's contract. Now, after you complain up a storm and nothing gets done, you call the state Dept. of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I should never try to read anything before morning coffee.
