It's over for my ProScan 38000 (RCA 38310 to the rest of you). It was a great set for the 7 months it worked. They put all these parts into it over the last 3 months and they gave up. American TV gave me a full refund on the set and the 3 year service contract. I was going to get the Toshiba 34hdx82 but decided to spend an extra $200 on the brand new Sony KV-34XBR800. It's a 34-inch 16:9 WEGA tube set. Will get it in a month and let you know how it runs. Just stay away from the RCA 38-inchers if you find them on sale (they're discontinued). They seem to be very unreliable from my experience and those on hometheaterspot.--- GS kid

Why the Sony over the Toshiba?  Just curious.

I'm getting the Sony cuz the Toshiba customer service guy could not promise me that it would display 720p input. The new Toshibas are the hdx82 series. All of hdx82 projection models have the new ISDC PRO inputs which upscans 720p to 1080i. But the 34hdx82 tube-set has the older ISDC II inputs even though it's apart of the brand new hdx82 line. On Toshiba's website, the description of ISDC II mentions nothing about accepting 720p native or upscaning it. It does describe upconverting of 720p in their description of ISDC PRO. The customer service guy pulled out the user manual and said it says it accepts 720p but couldn't promise it wasn't a typo. I didn't want to get the set and find out the hard way... so I went with the Sony 34xbr800 'cuz it describes prominently of it's NEW 720p input (upscaned to 1080i). Besides... I always wanted to own a Sony TV, but they were alot of bucks. This time I decided to play it safe and spend the Xtra Bucks Required. (grin)---- GS kid
