Ch. 58 HD problems

I have a problem with my Dish 811 HD receiver and Ch. 58's digital feeds.  I have re-scanned for the CBS channel several times, and it doesn't show up on the list!  The native channel is showing up as 46-1 and 46-2.  Those channels do not show up on the normal list.

If I enter 046-2, I receive the CBS programming with good signals, but I receive the title for their other channel, Ch. 41.  If I enter 058-1, the receiver defaults to Ch. 58 analog.  The next channel up is Dish Ch. 100.

My question is, is this a Ch. 58 problem, or a problem with my 811 receiver?  My other STB still receives Ch. 58-1 where it ought to be, but I haven't re-scanned it recently.

Nels,

Yes this a Dish problem with a software upgrade recently I'm sure.  Have 3
customers with the exact same problem.

Guess what they are recomending mpeg4 upgrade (dish 211) which in some
respects is worse than the 811 is.

Must "cost" to much to put a decent quality off air tuner in these I suppose according to the powers that be.

Try to get a swap out if you dare (could end up with one that is worse) this may
fix or may not.  Someday hopefully they will figure out to go with a little higher quality right from the get go.:bang: :bang:

They may come with another upgrade to fix this, so hang in there, but who knows
what that upgrade will do.  I guess we have become the beta test sites now rather than making sure it all works before introducing to the general public.  Oh well its the world we live in now.:OnAir:

Brad,

My Samsung SIR-T151 Digital Tuner receives Ch. 58-1 and 58-2 just fine, even after a  re-scan.  The problem then really is with the Dish 811.

I'm wondering if I want to stay with Dish, or go to TW instead.  It would be nice to have an HD DVR anyhow.  Any opinions?  Is the pricing very similar, or is one provider heads up over another?

The 622 has been a pretty good receiver although heard some issues with
12-1, but don't know how widespread that it is.  Have several of these out there
with very little trouble.  Its a great DVR.

Dish does have some pretty good deals for even current customers for upgrades.

My advice call and negotiate a deal or threaten to quit that usually works pretty good.;)

They do have the most HD right now and with the off air you should have close to 40 channels of HD available.

Obviously these channels are not priority for some broadcasters yet.  I cannot
image this would ever happen once the cutoff from analog has been completed.

Which brings me to another point why some of these broadcasters spend money
and time touting there channels on TWC (namely tmj4's weather now 4-2) and  others about where they can be found on TWC channel lineup, but NEVER once
have I heard them say "it can also be found on or sub channel 4-2 free over the air for those on antenna".:huh?:

Most people have no clue this is available and why they refuse to ever mention this is beyond me.

When will someone begin to educate the public on this.  Guys in case you did not know it is now less than 23 months away.:bang:

From my personal experience only a very small percentage less than 5% really understand whats going on.

Someone please explain this to me because I do not get it and I don't care if they claim there is no incentive yet because  there would be incentive if people knew about it!

I have found that most people are ignorant about digital TV and HDTV. When I mentioned to co-workers about the Westinghouse 42" 1080p monitor that I just bought, I got replies such as  "You must have too much money" and "You must watch too much TV". This was coming from guys who have two or three snowmobiles, ATVs, boats and motorcycles. My 42" cost less than any one of them! And they spend more time driving those toys around in circles, than I do watching TV.

At the forum for the Media Portal PVR program, I try to tell people to not waste their money on analog capture cards. I usually am blown off, for stupid and minor reasons.

I am just about done with trying to promote digital and HDTV. I mean, if you buy a set now, you are not even an early adopter. The format has been around for quite some time. People who are "caught off guard" when analog ends, deserve what they get! I will just chuckle to myself and mumble something about them being idiots. :p

Maybe I'm not completely understanding, but I see guide data for 58-1 OTA.

Do you have Dish Network or Directv?  If so, they are providing the program guide data.  If you are OTA only, then something is wrong on my end.

I was wrong.  You are correct.  My OTA program data for 58-1 is missing also.  Sorry for the confusion.
