Drum Rolls Please.  I am finally made the plunge, I have dumped TWC and jumped to Directv.  My monthly bill will be $40 less and I will get ESPN 2 and National Geo in HD.  Bummed that I will losed INHD.  Anyone know if Directv will be adding this?  What made me switch is the monthly cost, thought of 100 HD channels this fall and the fact that they are going to install an antenna for me, so I can pick up the Chicago stations.  Need to see my Cubbies in HD.  Change is always tough, but excited and hope I am making the right change.

Nice job.  I agree and am considering pulling the trigger on it as well.  I am willing to wait for ATT, but not too long.  I am sick of paying an extra $7 for only 7 channels, if it wasn't for ESPN HD, I would cancel the HD package.

May you be an inspiration to all of us "fence sitters".

FiberOptic: Good for you in Kenosha trying to get Directv - hope you get all your local HD channels, as CBS2HD is almost impossible to get for many of my Illinois clients with OTA, but unlike CBS58 in Milwaukee, CBS2HD is on Directv for them, as are the other four local HD networks, including CWHD (making it 5 HD locals from the dish).

As for me, no CBS58HD is the dealbreaker in changing to Directv for service, since I live in a valley (sort of) and a monster-sized high-mast antenna (very commonplace in Kenosha) is a no-no for me and the spouse.

Keep us up-to-date with your service and findings...how many HR20s do you have?

syrett4: TWC only offers FIVE HD channels in its $6.95/month package since INHD2 went away WITHOUT anything replacing it!!!

HA, yeah I knew it wasn't much just didn't feel like counting.  Man can't wait for ATT.

syrett4: That's okay, just a frustration of over a year of paying for increases in subscriber fees and getting no HD channel additions in over a year, too.:D

HD channel additions are not a priority for TWC-Milwaukee it would appear, to say the least.

All the other TWC locations have had 2-6 HD channel additions in the past year, if not more recently than we have have got (none), including their Sinclair HD locals.

AT&T would work for me if I could get it in my area with TWO HD channels at a time for recording, plus one being played - three would  be better for other family members watching the third HD channel (or recording).
I just went through my HD DVR recording list and found conflicts on almost every night where AT&T's U-Verse single HD stream would be impossible to have/use.

DirecTV is totally awesome but the OTA antenna they give you is garbage. I would get a $30 uhf OTA from Radio Shack.

Well the antenna doesn't matter anymore, the technician set me up with local Chicago staions instead of Milwaukee.

You said "Well the antenna doesn't matter anymore, the technician set me up with local Chicago staions instead of Milwaukee. "

What gives?

Since CBS58 doesn't care to have D* have its HD signal (I watch a good deal of CBSHD), so without a good OTA signal close to where I am, which is not far from where you are,
I have the option of only 3 HD network locals vs. Chicagoland D* HD subs which have FIVE:
NBCHD, CBSHD, ABCHD, FOXHD and CWHD local HD network channels.
Question:
How the heck can you "qualify" for Chicago locals, including HD locals
(and the CSR I talked to said it was not possible?)

Sweet deal,  lucky you!;)

jjallou

I called as well. The CSR I spoke with went through all possible Kenosha area zip codes and none qualify for Chicago locals. What is the under the table price to get another markets local channels?

FiberOptic

After showing the new antenna that would need to installed and the power that would be needed  The tech did something to change the zip code to get my Chicago locals.  After I explained what I wanted the antenna for, he just said lets just change your zip code.

Kenosha County residences have a "HD problem" when it comes to actual choices (like none outside of TWC for now).
Racine County is getting AT&T vs. nothing yet with Kenosha...not even FIOS in the Verizon areas so served.

Milwaukee HD stations are really "fun" to get in some areas of the county/city
-ever visit the area and see these really high masts and monster-sized antennas?

Directv offers FIVE HD locals to subs in Illinois just a few miles away using the D* dish, no big antenna, while Dishnetwork offers only the big 4,  but this is still much better than Milwaukee's paltry 3 with no CBS58HD for D* and nothing HD local from Dish at all.

SO all we have is TWC for HDTV delivery unless you want your house to start looking like the "backlot" of a cable company....

FiberOptic: Great you got your zipcode changed and wish I could offer that solution to myself and others in the area...I notice you didn't like the type of antenna required, either (big surprise).;)

Racine County or the City of Racine?  :dg:

You know, unless you have a mayor like we do who wants to play games with AT&T like ours does (at least it would seem), you will get it sooner than we will.
Your location is closer to that antenna farm in Milwaukee than we are for signals if you want to go "solo" (no sub services), too.
Everytime I drive through your fair county (and city) I see AT&T trucks in clusters doing something (like hookups) and if you don't have it yet, your government is allowing it to happen unlike us, at least for now.
Be patient - at least I see AT&T lines and boxes (and vans) in your area vs. nothing in ours except that one box I saw on a main road far from my house.:D
