Has anyone had any issues with the 8300 not syncing the audio with the picture
via HDMI?

If so..... how did you fix it.

i just got the 8300 yesterday and i have no sound out of the hdmi jack.  Not sure if that's the same thing you have or if you have no sound, but yeah, i have no sound.  Sound comes out of the optical jack, but i dont wanna have my receiver on all the time.  Called TWC, and they said that not all hdmi jacks will work.

But let me know if you end up figuring it out too.

There is an audio out configuration in the settings.  I believe it is set to Optical by default.  You probably just need to change it to HDMI to allow audio to pass through that channel.  Most people would not use the HDMI for audio though unless you have a receiver capable of doing video switching over HDMI.  Running HDMI to your TV and running optical to your receiver is not a both working type of scenario.  You have to decide what connection sends audio.

well heres the thing with that.  I read in the book where i would say something like that but i go into my settings, and i dont have any kind of audio setting.  I have a video setting (1081i,720p,480p) all that jazz, but no audio setting.  Thought to be a bit odd.

You're pressing 'A' for "more settings"!?  It should be there.  Right below Output format is Audio Level and the Digital Audio output.  It should be part of the software so it's pretty odd that we would have different options.

afraid not, like i said, i have the video output option, but no audio.  Right now im pretty satisfied with the component video with analog audio going to the tv and then just running optical to my receiver.

so far, recorded two things, 1 in HD, and the box hasnt froze up yet.

i double checked my audio settings when i just had component video and analog audio, and i saw where it showed the dolby dig. setting and 2-ch. stereo, so i decided to try hooking the hdmi cable back in and see what it comes up with, and low and behold, it popped up "hdmi"
for the record, it didnt recognize the hdmi connection the first time i tried that.
Same thing happened when i had the hdmi cable plugged in for video, it didnt recognize it right away.

Yep, you figured out that part. It appears that the HDMI jack has some intelligence
and won't show you the "extended" options unless you have your HDMI cable hooked up to it.

I believe that you have to set the audio to 2 channel because when hooking up your TV via HDMI you cannot do Dolby Digital (5.1) because televisions only have 2 channel audio and not 5.1 Dolby Digital (speaker limitation). If you were to use the DD setting you would get no audio to your television.

A audio/video receiver has the ability to output 5.1 so that's another story.......
