Thanks, e-man, we all look forward to your experiences with the AT&T and their HD DVR and the U400 package, which includes 27 HD channels from what I count, 15 more full time monthly subscription HD channels than TWC.

I forgot to ask the installer a few days ago, IF:
1)You can record 2 HD streams if no other box(s) are on
                                OR
2) Is it watch one and record one while watching an already-recorded HD programme.
So what do you think?

My guess is watch one HD recorded programme while another is being recorded live, that is the only way to get 2 HD anything for now at one time.

In other parts of the premises, you get 2 other SD (non-HD) access points and the DVR acts like a "master" to the other 2 "slaves", similar to that SA 8300HD-R box (could be correct model) we never got with TWC.

Keep us all updated !;)

Quote from: e-man;38141It is available where I live in Wauwatosa and I placed the order today.  You get 4 streams, one of which is HD, delivered via fiber optic cable.  You can record 3 shows and watch something else at the same time if no other streams are being used in your household.  However, at this time, only 1 HD.  She expected that to change soon.  Soon you will also be able to watch any DVR'd show on any of your tv's.

I ordered the U400 package (no internet or phone service, either).  $99/month, first two months free.  Add $5 for a fourth box (first 3 are included), $10 for HD (first 2 months free), and I end up paying $114 per month for all of their channels except the spanish package and Playboy.  Reasonable, since that is less than what I'm paying now with TWC and I don't get all of their channels.

I like the 2 months free, as it gives me room to hang on to TWC for a month or so

to see if the service is as good as I hope it is.

I am interested in the U200 package, adding the sports pack & HD. However is it true that you have to buy a premium package ( HBO, etc), to get he HD Package?

Nope, there's only one HD stream.  So, you would need to watch a recorded HD program to record another in HD.

I don't think you need to order a premium package to get the HD package.  I told them first that's what I wanted.  Not entirely sure though.

If you look at this pdf file:
https://uma.sbc.com/assets/files/Milwaukee.pdf
The symbols guide you to the U200 for sports HD channels...those diamonds are the U200 for NFL Network HD, while the ovals include ESPNHD and ESPN2HD.
If you look at the main site:
https://uverse1.att.com/launchAMSSNotAuthenticated.do?target_action=SelectOffer&categoryId=WEB1
You get the pricing levels per selection & then add the "HD technology fee" that gets you the HD DVR, HD channels at the level you want and 2 extra HD boxes, from what I understand from it.
If you are lost on this page, hit the"Back" button on screen to get the pricing from the login screen...worked for me.

Do their DVRs have built in OTA tuners?  Maybe you could record OTA HD while recording an HD feed from Uverse.

This sounds like it might be perfect for me. Now I have: Directv (SD only, 2 tivos,$56), SBC (phone, dsl-express,$52). I need 2 receivers (both DVR's if possible), DSL-pro, and the 200 pack+HD,$90). I will save around $15 and get rid of an annoyance (phone line). And I can probably sell one of my TiVo's (save one in case I go back later.

The 1 HD stream don't mean too much to me, because I have 2 tuners in my HTPC for all the network stuff and cable channels replay alot of stuff (but 2 streams will be better)

I called and ordered yesterday.  I'm excited to see what ATT brings to the table.  I went for the U400 package since the first 2 months are free.  You still have to pay for the internet service for those months.  If all goes well I'll probably drop down to the U200 and add HBO and Showtime.  I don't particuarly care for the 1 hd stream limitation but I think I can keep TW's cheapest basic package to allow me to record the locals on my Vista MCE/HDHR combo.  Almost all my concurrent recordings are on broadcast TV.   I want my ESPN2HD!

Most comments regarding the one HD stream indicate you can only watch one HD program at a time. Can I watch that same HD show on multiple TVs at the same time?

This is the part that most interests me. Being able to watch a recorded program on any TV with a box. The 1 HD feed will hold me off for a while with Heroes on opposite 24 and both needed in HD.

I'm pretty sure you can.

How much extra was Playboy? :D

I like the sound of this. My work pays for Roadrunner, so I don't need internet or phone. The ability to watch what your record on DVR on any TV in your house is very cool too.  But could I survive on only one HD feed?  Hmm...

Once they support more than 1 HD stream, with no expensive hardware to buy (rental like cable), and their price is competitive to TWC, they have me. Contracts are fine with me as long as they have a trial period.

Until then, I'll be listening.

Well, things aren't off to a good start.  I called on Friday to order after checking my address on the web site showed that my address was eligible.  The lady on the telephone confirmed, but ran into issues when trying to schedule an installation date.  Seems the post office address doesn't match their computer.  A technical problem, I was assured, that would be fixed the next day.  I got a call on Saturday, saying that it would be Monday before their database could be corrected.  No call on Monday, so I called late in the day.  "We'll call you back in an hour" I was told.  As of yet, no call.

I hope this isn't a sign of how the customer service team operates.  One would think that these types of things would be resolved quickly if they are wanting to add lots of people.

I was at the Ridge theater last nite to see a flick with the family and noticed 2 booths/monitors as I was walking out. There weren't turned on but there was some pamplets on display so I took one. I haven't looked it over real close but near the back it list pricing and the "Elite" service was $129/month.  Not bad considering I pay more for less with TWC. If it comes to West Allis I will definitely give it a try. Don't know about internet service yet but who knows? Watching this thread with great interest!

Don't panic, you still have the TWC service, right?
If that's the case, wait until you have a solution and setup date, you're installed and all is working well,  like you said.
Every new company - and this is like a new company - since most of the people at AT&T are being hired here - are new and in training.
They plan on hiring up to 200 employees, so they are having "growing pains".
TWC has no excuse, just their usual non-caring, having been around so long when they pull this, but I would give AT&T some room, at least for now, IMO.;)
