Just got back from Magnolia Best Buy and they had the Samsung HP-S4273 on sale
for $1,699!  {santa}

I now have a buttload of rewardzone points coming my way!

I've been researching these models for quite some time now and the xxx73 ups the ante from the xxxx53 on speakers, QAM/cablecard, swivel, antiglare screen, 2 year warranty (instead of 1), a bunch of additional inputs - PC, Memory card, USB, etc.,

1) It won't be in till Thursday so my question for everyone here is...... How much does TWC charge for their cablecard?

2) Has anyone else had any luck just hooking up their standard cable to one of these QAM tuners and received the HD channels or do I definately need the card?

There's a ~$30 installation fee.. TWC has to install it.  It's $2.50 a month.

I use the QAM tuner on my cheap HDTV.. it takes about 10-20 minutes after turning the TV on before I can get a watchable picture.. and sometimes the channels disappear.  I have a feeling it's because the signal's split so much in my apartment combined with the fact that it's a cheap TV.  I never tried the QAM tuner on my other TV without the cablecard inside.. but I'd imagine without the card things would be fine since I have no problems now.

When i first got my hdtv I just plugged in the "standard" cable and picked up all the normal analog channels along with HD feeds of the locals.  They will be on wierd channels though, i.e. 0.012 or something.  A cable card will give you access to digital cable and the HD cable channels like discovery hd.

ok this is a stupid question but how do I get channel 0.012?

My new TV will be here tomorrow night and I'd like to see if I can get the HD Locals via basic analog hookup.

Time Warner Cable QAM Digital/HD channels run from approximately

   QAM channel 75.1 thru 110.14.....

The Digital Std Def channels are usually below 102.1  (guess)

and Hi Def unscrabled local channels above 102.1.....

Attempting to identify the Std Def digital channels can be difficult

if there is no lower corner logo....    because there is no Cable

guide available in QAM channel lingo.....  Local HD has nice corner Logos!

After a cable scan.......   The Analog NTSC channels appear in familiar

Cable chan ID's with No .1's    The QAM digital channels are found by the QAM

tuner in the 75.1 to 110.14 approx range....  with 75.1, 75.2, 75.4, ect.

Some Time watching plus pencil & paper will break the local QAM code....

Over time, some HD Cable dudes have listed the TWC QAM Chan ID's

     here for MKE...

My TV will scan for Analog channels and Digital channels

I have Anolog options as: STD, HRC, IIRC

I have Digital options as: STD, HRC, IIRC

Which should I choose for the autoprogram for each?

Den Mayer

Use the STD option QAM frequency scan....

  HRC is Harmonically Related Carriers

and IRC is Incrementally Related carriers........

These 3 options determine which of 3 fixed sets of

QAM predetermined frequencies are to be scaned for

digital program locations.       The QAM frequencies of each

are similar but slightly different in numericic value.

GOOGLE using HRC IRC will give exact detailed info if interested.

Thanks for the response Den!

I figure it will take me a few days to get used to the new TV and lingo.....

I'm really anxious to find a HD channel over my standard analog hookup.

If for some reason I can't find any using TWC here in Muskego I may consider

paying extra for the cable card but for now I want to see free HD.

I have the cable card with Time Warner. My TV is a JVC. The problems I encounter are :    What I get is the cable card from time to time will not work. What I mean by does not work is that when turn on TV the digital channels are not working. I have to then, turn off TV. Unplug TV wait a couple of minutes, and then plug set back in. This then "resets" the cable card. I have spoken to Time Warner numerous times, replaced the card several times, all with no results. This continues to be a problem. Does anyone else experience anything similar?  Any suggestions..short of another box, I already have a box on my other HD set.
