Question about antennas

Finally getting my first set (Toshiba 42LX196 coming in Feb.) and have a question about receiving HD content OTA.

I live on the West side of Grafton in a ranch style home.  My house came with three of the large roof-top type antennas.  One on the rooftop, one in my garage's attic, and one in my house's attic.  I don't know anything about how they aim or anything.

All I want to pull in are the digital stations, and I'm thinking about "stringing" them all together via coax and a couple of 2 to 1 splitters, and wiring it up to the back of my Toshiba.

Is it as simple as that?

Thanks for your responses.

P.S.: I'll use the TWC 8300HD box as my second tuner.  Is this the best STB I can get out of TWC?

Please don't ban me for the double thread.  If Greg could delete the other, I'd consider it a personal favor.....

One big killer of digital OTA reception is multipath (same signal arriving at the receiver at different times).  An easy way to create multipath it is to connect multiple antennas together.

Try the antenna on the roof first.

If you could take a picture of the antenna on your roof and e-mail to me I can help you with much greater detail if you have trouble with reception.

I also agree try the rooftop antenna on your house first.

Any idea how old it is?  Also replace the wire if it is the flat 300ohm wire
with good RG6U cable.

Depending on antenna type (brand) you may have corroded terminals where the wire connects and may break or twist them off so be gentle or spray with WD-40
first.  You will also need a balun (matching transformer) to go from 300ohm (if it has the screw terminals) to the RG6 75ohm cable.

Again a picture will really help as I will be able to tell you the brand and what possible problems you may encounter with the type you have.

Last year I got a digital tuner (STB) for my father in Saukville. He has an old antenna on the roof (Yagi?) with a rotor. All he needed was to tweak the direction that the antenna was pointing.

Thanks for the quick replies all.

My rooftop has the connection via coaxial cable.  As soon as the snow has melted, I'll be sure to email the picture to you bradsmainsite.

My Tosh is now confirmed for this Sat.  I can't wait!
