Allright gents , I am glad i found this site first off .

OK here is my problem , I Picked up a JVC HD-61FN97  ( gourgeous TV)  and i want to recieve locals in HD so i pick up a RCA Amplified HD antenna , well I get all the stations basically ( I live in Muskego and reception blows here )but not in HD and from what i was reading and told is that i need to enter the channel for HD like 4-1 well i have no "dash" to enter on my remote . ( unless i am missing something  ) Or is there some setting in the TV itself that needs to be changed? The Manual is basically useless. And should i be running the coax straight to TV or through my satellite box ?

Thanx for your time .

Have you scanned for all available stations?  Your receiver needs to pick up the digital channels and then map them. So if you go directly to 28, your set should show 4's digital channel, and then map 4-1 and 4-2.   33 will be Fox 6 Digital, etc...

 4-1 TMJ4 NBC (28D)
4-2 TMJ4 NBC Weather Plus (28-2D)
6-1 WITI FOX (33D)
10-1 WMVS PBS Later (3 hr delay of WMVS) (8D)
10-2 WMPT Later (3 hr delay of WMVS) (8-2D)
10-3 WMPT University (8-3D)
10-4 WMPT Kids (8-4D)
10-5 WMPT Extra (8-5D)
10-6 WMPT Extra (8-6D)
12-1 WISN ABC (34D)
18-1 WVTV CW (61D)
24-1 WCGV MyNetworkTV (25D)
24-2 The Tube Network (25-2D)
30-1 WVCY IND (22D)
36-1 WMVT PBS (35D)
55-1 WPXE PAX (40D)
58-1 WDJT CBS (46D)
58-2 WMLW CBS (46-2D)

When  you go to the setup screen you need to select Air for the setup and then Digital for OTA digital then do a scan it should come up with all the locals.  Even though you don't have a dash on the remote some use a (.) period for the seperation rather than a dash.  Also once programmed they should scroll thru with the up/down channels and provide both analog and digital in order like this...first 4 then 4.1 then 4.2 then 6 then 6.1 ect.

No go   , I have tried everything  . and i am not spending another red cent just to recieve some locals on channels i will never watch . Just thought it would be nice . So back to the store all the cables and tv and satellite they go i have had enough . over 6g's ****ed away .

Life was more simple with my 35" hitachi and everything was clear and less pixalized .

If you are using a DirecTv box you should make sure the OTA cable from the antenna goes in the OTA input.  Then you should have some type of setup screen in the menu of the Sat box.  Scan for the channels and it should pick up the ones you are receiving.  They should appear in your channel guide as 4-1, 6-1 etc.

Just thought of this.....do you have an HD satellite boxor are you still using an old box???  Directv or Dish each have special HD boxes that are different than the regular boxes for standard def signals?  If it is HD how is it connected to the TV.

If you really like the TV keep it, you will be able to receive the local stations.  If your having buyers remorse, well everyone goes through that (I think??) and I don't think we will be much help with that.

Well, I've quickly scanned through the owner's manual for your television. Good news is: you're not nuts. The manual for that TV is as clear as mud, and I'm pretty good with electronics. By the time I was done scanning it, I had a headache.

Now, that said, here's the relevant info:
Assuming you had your antenna hooked up to the "ATSC/Digital Cable" coaxial in port on the back of the TV, and you've scanned for channels, your TV will have automatically added both the digital AND the analog over-the-air channels. That's all there is to it.

What you want to do when you want to watch the digital (HD) channels is press the D/A button on your remote control. This tells your TV to switch over to the digital tuner. When you want to watch the analog channels again (and I'm not sure why) you press this button again.

Once you're on the digital tuner, all you have to do is tune the same way you would have before. For instance, if you want to watch channel 12, press the 1, the 2, then press the TUNE button on the remote. (TUNE is equivalent to "ENTER" on most remotes - it just says to your TV "I'm done entering numbers - tune to the channel number I entered.")

You don't have to worry about the dash or the dot or whatever. If you did what I said, your TV should show "D12" on screen, meaning you're watching the Digital channel 12. If it only shows "12", you didn't switch over to the digital tuner - press the D/A button.

If you KNOW you want to watch one of the "subchannels" - for instance, if you want to watch "The Tube" which broadcasts on the second subchannel of 24 (i.e. "24.2"), you would press 2, 4, then press the SUB button, then press 2 (to indicate the second subchannel) and press the TUNE button. (SUB is equivalent to "dot" or "dash" - so if you see someone mention 10.3, that would be the buttons 1, 0, SUB, 3.)

That's all you really need to know for watching over-the-air stuff using your TV and an antenna.

If there's anything else I can help you understand about your TV, please ask! I'd be glad to try and explain it!

Your problem also may be your antenna.  Is this indoor or outdoor and if its amplified you may have to much signal splattering all over the place allowing the tuner to lock on to nothing (quite a common problem "overamplification")

This of course assumes you still have everything?:(

Keep working with us you should be able to get at least 1 or 2 stations!

If you get nothing at all it tells me something is dramaticallly wrong.:bang:

JVC has a D/A button to switch from Digital to Analog stations.  You can toggle between the two using this button.
