Has anyone else noticed that the black levels for Channel 6 seem to be way off for all their local, digital programming?  The FOX HD feed looks fine, but for any of the local shows, the pictures look way too bright.

The easiest way to notice is if a 4x3 picture has a black frame around it (like during a letterboxed commercial).  On channel 6, the black frame is gray compared to the black pillarbox directly next to it.  On all of the other stations, both frames are black and the transition is seamless.

I'm watching a calibrated DLP set, and my HD tuner is connected via DVI.

Has anyone else noticed the same problem?

I notice it also.  I've also noticed that a lot of the SD content Fox6 has looks sort of like I'm watching an analog channel... might be because the picture's too bright?  I'm talking about shows like Seinfeld and some of the primetime Fox shows they play after the 10pm news.

I think someone needs to calibrate something over there at WITI... ;)

Seinfeld and other syndicated programs are sent to the stations on analog C-Band satellite. On a digital signal, those programs would not look as good as a program received by a digital receiver. More and more programs are going to digital delivery, but there are still many programs that are still sent via analog.

I noticed this the other day, and forgot to post it, but it looks like the black level problem has been fixed.

Looking at letterboxed SD content, the black borders blend in perfectly with the pillarbox sidebars.

Looks much better now.
