Pleasant Surprise: John Mayer in HD

DirecTV uses channel 101 to show concerts, typically airing 2 or 3 over and over for a month. I don't often watch because they're always pretty grainy SD, unless it's an artist that I really like. Last month I tivo'ed Dave Mathews and John Mayer. Mathews was typical yucky PQ... But I was pleasantly surprised to see that the John Mayer concert was HiDef(!)  Even the program description lists it as HDTV. I double checked in case my wishlist just grabbed it from 95 or HDnet, but it really did record it on 101.

Can D* just send an HD program down any channel they wish any time they want?

They can remap your receiver anytime they want and they can allocate different bandwidth to channels as they wish....they are their dedicated birds.

Hmm... so when they do something like this, what happens for the people who don't have an HD receiver? Does the show just dissappear?

It probably won't even show up on their guide.
