On the drive to work this am, I heard a commercial for TWC. It was asking people to ditch the dish because TWC has ALL the local channels in HD.

Doesn't Ch. 24 broadcast programing in HD? If so, I don't recall seeing that on my TV and I am a current TWC subscriber. Hmmmm.......

My New Years resolution is to give TWC a few months in 07 to make some HD upgrades or, they will lose me to satelite TV.

TWC does not offer CW18 in HD/digital AND My24HD because it does not have or want to work out agreements with Sinclair which owns these stations, unlike TWC and Comcast do, in other locations in the country.
Until analogue broadcasting ceases, must-carry takes hold and the digital must be sent through, it is my understanding that we will never get these HD local channels on TWC, locally.
It is up to the bosses of TWC here to decide for us as subscribers what we will get, regardless of what happens in other locations in the country...or at least, until U-Verse and FIOS are available for competition, that is.:D

TWC is starting to do some advertising that CYA with it showing that you can get local HD for FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS...no mention of the independants.

It is misleading for TWC to advertise that they offer "all your HD local channels" when in fact, they do not, meaning CW18HD and 24HD, "independent" or not.

CW is a national network, just like FOX, ABC, CBS and NBC and like the others in this metro area, it is locally owned and operated, not network-owned.
All of the local channels, can be considered "independents".

Ignorance is bliss, for TWC HD subs, I guess.:D

Think I'll start running some ads about THE POWER OF an "off Air antenna"
and being able to get ALL you LOCAL channels for Free and uncompressed HD when they aren't multicasting and even if they are it still is most likely better!:D

"The beauty of RF is it's still FREE"

What make you say  RF is free? Who pays for all the advetising carried on OTA or anywhere  of course the consumer!  For instance do you know that  Green Bay PACKERS are getting over 90 million dollars a year from the current NFL tv contract that boils down to about $15 dollars per wisconsin resident and also did you know that when you purchase a new automobile your paying well over a thousand dollars just  for the cost of advertising. and that  ommercial tv stations, are among the most profitable bussinesses you can own. In this country many OTA stations have profit margins of over 60% unlike almost any other business which averages about 6 to 10%.

When you pay for cable TV to watch local OTA stations, you are actually paying for them twice!

What a waste of money

1st time poster long time lurker. Great topics, love the site. I've been a member at AVS for a while and have noticed not much action on the Milwaukee thread for obvious reasons.

Yes RF is free and is advertising supported which in turn contributes to price increases in the products you buy. And yes when you subscribe to even the basic cable service you are paying to see those local OTA channels and the associated commercials that they air.

So riddle me this......if I pay for cable/satellite service why am I still seeing a gazillion channels that are still advertiser supported? TBS, Disney, CNN, etc, all run ads as well.

Nothing I hate worst than flipping through channels that I'm alreadly paying upfront for and having to wait for the commercials to end.

But I would assume the cable/satellite rates would go sky high if those channels wern't advertiser supported. You don't get something for nothing.

GBK

TBS is a superstation it isn't a cable network channel only it's an Atlanta based OTA station... now that being said you are getting CNN with ads because most people are unwilling to complain about paying twice for services..  Get OTA... I don't have a problem with ads on those channels because I know they pay the bills... cable is a giant rip off and the sooner you accept  it the better off you'll be. Satelite is cheaper then cable but nothing beats Free.  There is only a few channels I miss Sci-fi, History, Discovery etc... if they do ala carte maybe I'd consider paying for TV again.

tencom

No law requires you to subscribe to cable or satellite, it's a persomal choice. I  don't choose to watch much advertiser controlled television but I still pay for it
is that fair?

SRW1000

I find it rather hypocritical of Time Warner to advertise that they're carrying all local HD channels, when they just filed a lawsuit against DirecTV because of their ads claiming that you couldn't get NFL network games if you were a TW customer.

All this HD stuff is confusing enough for consumers.  We don't need ads that make matters even worse.

This whole thing is getting pretty ridiculous, TW is too cheap to get NFL football, so they don't want their competition to advertise that information? Though I'm a TW subscribe, at the moment Direct TV has every right to call out Time Warner cheap ass.
Here are two articles about that lawsuit:
