Today Mitsubishi dropped the MSRP of the HD1000 to $995. It's gotten 2 great reviews at Projectorcentral.com and Projectorreviews.com. I'm trying to decide between this and the Optoma HD70.

well I'd vouche for the HD70. I have it and it works great. I just hooked up an upconverting dvd player and have watched the Cars movie a few times since I have a two year old. Since I got it I haven't followed the threads on avsforum since they just over analzye stuff to death. I was amazed yesterday that I actually found someone posted their tweaks so I will try those out this weekend. I haven't had time to putz around with settings on the projector or my onkyo stereo. I just have enough time to watch a movie or catch a game and don't want to waste time playing around. My wife did have people over from work the other Friday and they all loved it. We watched National lampoons xma vacation. I was surprised that the somewhat straight laced people she works with thought the 104" screen would be perfect for watching porn.

Seems to be an automatic reaction with certain people when they see a giant screen... same thing with my friends; although I'm sure my group skews a bit younger.

what tweaks have you made to your HD70 for fine tuning the picture? i haven't had much time yet. i have hdmi over a pace box from TW. going to call and see if they have a non dvr hdmi box. the pace box is a pace of crap.

I haven't had much of a chance either... I'm working on getting my hands on various test patterns for the different inputs... I should have some "good start" settings sometime next week.
