For HDTV: Comcast > TimeWarner?

It looks like Comcast subscribers are getting way more HD channels than those of us that are stuck with TimeWarner:

Comcast adds several HD channels

Man, I hate the arbitrary nature of cable monopolies...

Most Comcast locations added something to replace INHD2 before it goes dark in January, but TWC has given us no alternative, like Comcast did for their customers, amongst the other HD channel additions that have occurred this past year...really sad.:(

So in a way, it is like a price increase when one of the six HD channels in the HD package is gone without a replacement, even though there is no price increase...kinda hurts.

Your DigiPic pricing DOES go up another $2 on all packages in January, but your HD channels available do not (these go down by that one)....isn't a lack of competition wonderful?

Chinatown

Will also be adding this to their HD package

From the sounds of that arcticle, does Comcast not have the HDNet channels?

Heh, well then in my book, Comcast's HD lineup doesn't beat Time Warner's. HDNet and HDNet Movies is a must for me. I never watch A&E anyways... I might a little more if it was HD, but I don't care. National Geographic HD is nice to have, but it's not in real HD a lot of the time, and as long as you have DiscoveryHD, NG is just extra.

Golf and Versus in HD? Really? I guess I missed all that clamoring for a quail hunt in HD? And as far as golf goes, I can look out my windows to see grass, and the golf ball is still hard to see, even with high def. Pointless IMO.

As "born-again" convert to TWC from Dishnetwork, please do not encourage TWC to rethink their ever adding any more HD channels....PLEASE!

It sounds as though you are, like TWC, very happy with what you have, but as I recall not long ago, Dish had more and you were VERY HAPPY...except when that thing with the OTA misfired.

BTW, if you read all the threads I do, Comcast is probably not that far from getting HDNET, anyway...:D

If you think the big wigs at TWC care what we write about in this little forum, you're kidding yourself.

I enjoyed having the extra channels, but most of the time I ended up watching movies on VOOM or StarzHD. Most of the "new" channels getting added to Comcast don't have much worthwhile content. At least movie channels can rely on a vault of new and old films, which are constantly getting HD transfers.

I never said that. I'd love more HD, just not useless HD. Also, DISH has started lowering the bitrate on their HD channels more and more... now the HDNet's have been downsized to 1440x1080 at half the bitrate so they can carry an extra HD preview channel. StarzHD, depending on the film, was sometimes lower than DVD quality since it got such little bitrate, and the source feed for that network is very low to begin with. So, the HD receiver that was unusable far too much of the time (which we tried replacing twice) was only part of the reason we switched back to TWC.

While I liked HDNET/Movies, NESNHD is the big bonus with Comcast on top off all the other channels that gives them a superior edge. I'll be dumping the majority of channels after Bowl season though since I can get NESN HD and a bunch of premiums with the bare minimum channels for about the same price (Starz/Cinemax/HBO/Sho). YESHD is also available on the InHD channel during baseball season. The converter box I have is a piece of x*&$ though, but fortunately doesn't gray bar the sides like the 3250HD FW box.

That's considered a good feature in most cases. I have a friend with DirecTV and a plasma that's a few years old, it already has burn-in from watching SD content. Although it would be nice to be able to toggle between gray and black on the TWC boxes.

Comcast is also showing the NFL Network HD game on the soon to be former "INHD2."

Here they showed it on IHND since we no longer have INHD2.

Has anyone heard anything more on whether TWC will EVER get ESPN2HD?  I gave up asking this question a few years ago...

I have not heard anything from them, just asked and got the usual blank stare through the phone...big surprise.:D
Our TWC area has not added any new HD channels for some time, just Universal HD much earlier this year.
Many TWC locations have StarzHD and CinemaxHD, too, but not in Wisconsin.
ESPN2HD is found in some formerly Comcast or Adelphia exchanged regions of the TWC empire, but not here, so even if there is a HD channel there, it won't be here.
My understanding is even if there is a national contract signed to add an HD channel (or even an SD channel), the local bosses do not have to carry it.
If there was someone we could aim our emails to in the part of the TWC empire locally to do some pushing, it would be, great, however possibly ignored.:bang:

First it took TWC forever to add ESPNHD, in fact I believe they added it just weeks before ESPN2HD went live.

I'm a college B'ball addict and love all of the HD games on ESPN & ESPN2 but I also love all of the extra SD games on ESPN-U and CSTV besides all of the FSN games in the Sports pack on D* (except that poor showing by the Badgers against MO State). And to be able to watch that can of Whup-@ss that Marquette unleashed on Bobby Knight's team last week was priceless.
