Road Runner speed boost coming soon?

I've heard that a few other cities have recently gotten some serious Road Runner speed boosts, and according to a thread at Broadband Reports:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16973846
QuoteIt is supposed to happen before the end of this year, they say it will jump up to 10 Mbps for the standard package and 15Mbps for the premium. I was told they are doing this to compete with Comcast since they offer 8Mbps which is titled the Gamers BroadBand. All I can say is just wait and see what happens here and see if TW is going to do it. And this info was given to me by a friend who has worked for TW for about 9 years. And one more thing I was told the price will not change but I find that hard to believe.

Anyone have a scoop? Can I call Road Runner and say a few secret words to get put on the faster tier? These things need testing, ya know! ;)

Well I had time warner phone me the other day trying to double me speed for (i think) an extra $8/month.

I was not interested.  My current 5mbs line (real world 2-4mbs) is more than fast enough and I would be happy having a more basic package of 2.5mbs for half the price (max $29.99/month) rather than the $45/month I pay now....

An insider told me that regular RR will be going up to 8mbps with RR Premium going up to 15mbps.  Upload speeds will also be going up to about 728 kbps - 1 mbps.

Yeah that's their Road Runner "Premium" serivce which is a rip-off IMO. They boost your download to 8mbps (900KB/s), but your upload only goes up to 512k (64KB/s).

My download speed is more than fast enough.  The amount of money they want for premium service just isn't worth it.  If Premium service provided a significant increase in upload speeds I would be interested.

Ok, the better question - I'm a Road Runner Business Class Telecommuter customer, through my employer.... will they up bizclass customers as well? If regular RR jumps, and Bizclass doesn't, I'll be mighty annoyed (and be calling them up to switch me back to regular RR).

I'd love to have biz class speeds, but the price is simply prohibitive, as far as I've seen. LoadStar, you happen to know the various pricing/speed tiers they have for that?

Quote from: sp44again;35818I get 5Mbps with SBC DSL for $27.99.

The trouble is that the last time I has DSL it was with Earthlink via Conrad (Wow I remember that!) and it was such a pain in the a$$ that I vowed i would never go back to it.

Are you sitting on top of an SBC exchange for that speed?  unfortunately I do not have SBC phone service so they would not connect me....

Live too far from my local teleco office to get DSL.

From what I have read, they will only up the speed if there is local competition.

My parents have biz class at their house through my dad's employer.  It's $40.95 a month for 5mb down and 512k up, plus supposedly they get dedicated paths through the network.  It's the only package offered for employees there.

Unless the internets blows up, I will never, EVER, get DSL ever again.

We have RR Business Class, and I checked the speed tonight on the Time Warner Speedtest page.

The last time I checked, about 3 months ago, I was getting about 5 Mbps download, and 500 Kbps upload speed.

Tonight, my download speed is about the same, but my upload speed is listed as 720Kbps.

That's a pretty good improvement.  Maybe we'll see more.

Ugh, my upload is still stuck at 45 KB/s. :(
