What are your favorite TV shows this season?

I thought this might be a fun subject... after all this is a tv forum!

At this moment, my favorite shows would have to be Heroes on NBC and Dexter on Showtime.

Heroes is just fantastic... sharp writing, great characters, and it achieves moments of excitement, intrigue, and suspense that even shows like 24 don't touch. Definitely my favorite show right now, and I'm glad it's found success.

Dexter... what can I say. Michael C. Hall is an amazing actor, and he proves it once again with this show. Extremely cutting edge (pun intended) and unapologetically dark, this is yet another great show you'd never dream of seeing on network tv. (Shows where the characters are very dark, like Smith, tend to not do well in the network ratings, no matter how good they are.)

Other choices would be Entourage on HBO, and Weeds on Showtime, however both of those are in-between seasons right now. Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip on NBC started out very strong, but it's simply gone downhill since. Aaron Sorkin has let the worst tendencies of his writing style come thru, which ends up coming across as extremely pretentious... talking down to the viewer, constantly trying to prove how "smart" he can be. Also, Amanda Peet couldn't act her way out of an invisible paper bag.

Smallville so far has been a bit disappointing... however it's nothing compared to how much Gilmore Girls has let me down. I can no longer defend my mancard for liking the show... it's been gutted of almost everything that made it a great show (Amy Sherman and Daniel Palladino both left the writing staff). The hyper-reality speech style is now just there for the sake of making them talk fast, without anything truly clever or any smart pop culture references; and the characters are doing things completely outside of the personalities the show has spent 6 seasons exploring. (These problems started towards the middle of the 6th season, and now the Palladino's have left a mess for the leftover subpar writing staff to clean up.) I'm done with it.

Since I only watch two shows on TV, I guess they must be considered my "favorite" shows for the season :D

Too bad only one of them is in HD...

The Office
Battlestar Galactica

Heros and Jericho on Network TV.

Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who.

(Thank God for DVR's as I was up at the cottage on Friday and didn't miss SCIFI, now if they would only go HD)

I agree on Battlestar Galactica, but I'm not watching the new season until it airs on UniversalHD. :D

I only watch a few things this season.

Battlestar Gallactica
Dr Who
The Daily Show
12 News from 6:00 AM - 6:30 AM

I started watching Hero's and have kept up with it on SciFi, but if it got cancelled, I'd not care at all.  It's too soap operaish for my tastes.

I also record most stand up comedy on Comedy Central.

Other than that, I watch mostly DVD's.  So much for all the HDTV equipment I invested in!  :(

My wife on the other hand ... she records all the "popular" crap shows.

Jericho is the only new show that stuck this season. We're still CSI and Lost fans... can't believe that next week is the season fianal of Lost already!

We always try to give new series on HBO and Showtime a shot... Tried to get into Dexter on Showtime, but it's just way too dark for us.

Heroes and Studio 60 are the only new shows this season that I watch. Both are very good. Everything else I watch is a carryover from last season (Veronica Mars, ER, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition).

I've only had time to watch the first two episodes of Heroes, but so far it's good.

Once you edit out the commercials, its amazing how fast you can zip through them.

Half the shows we won't even start watching until after the season is over. Then we actually have stuff to watch during the summer.
