Paul S.

So a rep from TWC was here yesterday telling us that Comcast will be in my hood to install cable lines or whatever. He aslo said my cable bill will probally be reduced. WTF?

Yeah, literally, WHAT?

Comcast took over the Twin Cities area, Houston,TX (but got the Dallas,TX metro), but certainly not the Wisconsin Division, no way. :guitar:

What is really weird is that Houston,TX actually had a really decent array of 18 HD channels, including HDNET/HDNET Movies and the CWHD (their location is not Sinclair owned)and now it will have LESS HD offerings with Comcrap, er, Comcast, when it takes it over...really stupid.

Dallas, home of HDNET/HDNET Movies and Mark Cuban's Dallas Mavericks, still does not have these TWC HD channels in its lineup since TWC's Comcast takeover some time ago.

Does this all suck or what?

If we end up with the other cable company, (which I don't think we will) we probably would get what the Twin Cites has:
No INHD2, HDNET or HDNET Movies, which means no more Star Trek Enterprise in HD, no NHL HD, etc...that would be worse than bad and their DVRs aren't very good, either.

So.... did anyone else hear about this, or was this some jag with TWC credentials f'n with me? lol

I'd say the latter, I watch the news on these things and get the industry newspapers/mags and have heard nothing about it.
(are you sure it wasn't a misunderstanding and it was Commscope or some installation contractor???)

Granted, Comcast in some areas is great, it is just some locations are bad - and Chicago is one of them according to my borderline clients.

I would like the added HD channels of CWHD, StarzHD, CinemaxHD, ESPN2HD and MTVHD (MHD) but would hate to be without HDNET/HDNET Movies and the extra INHD which I really enjoy, if it was really true. :D

I do have Comcast here in Il and the list of above channels is accurate.  I also have an active E* system & just recently canceled the HD Package (MPEG 2, not the updated MPEG 4) which included HDNET/HDNET Movies.  I never really watched either one too much & all of the channels were duplicated on Comcast.  Couldn't justify $10/month for just those 2 channels.  We also did drop INHD 2, no big loss.  But we also have Comcast SportsNet HD & that makes it all worthwhile!

Update: Theory-only, of course.

We have not got our Sinclair HD stations up in the TWC channel selection and Comcast is having some disputes with them now, unlike the most recent agreement with TWC.

We have not had any HD channel additions, either, as all other locations have got some or all of them.

My friends and some family members in Houston, TX, think, along with me (at least for now), that when a cableco is about to switch...like they are doing in their town (to Comcast), nothing is added or even changes much.

Something to think about, at least.

But there have been no notices of a change to Comcast, either, like they had, or for that matter, like when Comcast took over the Twin Cities, either, from TWC.

It still freaks me out that some well informed person came to my door and said that...

Well-informed person or not, it just seemed a bit suspicious to me, at least.

A "well-informed" person once told me  -  that we would have 20 HD channels by now, when I first picked up my first 8000HD DVR, too (remember when these first came out?)

So no one at TWC can tell us anything, yet no announcement of anything.

Several things have not come out yet - are we getting a new cable company?

Things like digital cloning of the analogue channels was supposedly planned for last October, the DVRs are not getting Navigator (yet), which may well be a good thing, no HD channel additions have occurred, while everywhere in TWC elsewhere is getting something.

Sounds like TWC-Wisconsin is holding up on things...why?

Bandwidth cannot be a problem as we lost INHD2, so at least one HD channel, if not more, could appear from somewhere, too, at least we could get something, unless Comcast was coming.

I am looking for explanation for this lack of HD commitment, slow progress on everything else, included....seems suspicious, no answers from anyone at TWC.

Is it a coincidence? I have D* and 2 HD boxes, 1 is mpeg4 and the other mpeg2. I called earlier this week to try and upgrade the mpeg2 box to an mpeg4 box and D* shipped one FedEx no charge (actually got a $25 credit but I digress).

So Wednesday night I pull in the driveway after work and some guy was just leaving the front door and went to the neighbor's front door. I ask my wife "Who's going door to door?" and she tells me it was a TWC salesman trying to sign up houses that weren't subs except when she answered the door he hands her my new mpeg4 box that FedEx left on the porch!

She thought he was from D* because the box had D* printed all over it! It was an awkward moment for him because he knew we wouldn't switch since we just got a new box (and 2 year commitment of course).

This explains the fact that once you give up on cable, do the satellite setup, no matter what the cost was to do it, you keep the satellite service in most cases.

Once cable wrongs the customer the customer almost never comes back to cable service.

Doesn't Time Warner Cable Milwaukee management understand this?

Does TWC care?
No.
TWC's most recent actions speak louder than any advertising and misleading newspaper ads.

Word of mouth is the greatest ad campaign ever, if the people I know have anything to say about the "joys" of TWC-Milwaukee for cableTV service that went to satellite and never came back.

It was a nice coincidence, the Directv box on the doorstep as the TWC salesperson hands it to them.

Now, Directv should have made a commercial on that!

I totally disagree.  I know a large number of people who switch back to cable, including myself after being with D* for about 6 yrs.  In fact D* knows this which is why they force customers into 2yr contracts whenever they upgrade HW or move.

Im no fan of TWC, but I must admit it makes me laugh when D* fans complain about them.  After all TWC-Milwaukee services far fewer customers than D* does yet they still manage to have more HDTV offerings.  In fact D*s offerings are so pathetic that they now advertise their future offerings instead of what they have now.

gparris

I had Directv until I asked them to invoke the movers and they had deleted my account and told me I had to get new boxes as well as cards...that did it for me, besides no HD locals at the time.

Having built a house to accomodate them didn't help, so I told them no deal.:(

Times change, but some folks feel the pain or grudge nonetheless...I am not one of them, but many of my clients, friends and family members are that way.
Once TWC lost them, they were gone for good.:D

I like to keep my options open, but so far, it's TWC for service provider since I am hoping they offer more HD channels very soon.:)

PaulKTF

I very much doubt Time Warner would allow a second cable company to compete in the area... I'd love to have Comcast as an option of course (like the rest of you) but I just don't see it happening. :(

Is there any way you can get this person's name and contact them for more information? I'm not saying I'm doubting you; but I am kind of doubting what the TWC rep said...
