What's up with 58-1 and HD?

I came home in the middle of the Sunday CBS game, and I thought my wife had mis-tuned to D*'s ML58, rather than the OTC 58-1, 'cause it was a square, ordinary picture, instad of the HD format.  No such luck.  58-1 wasn't broadcasting an HD picture, whereas 6-1 and 4-1 (later in the evening) delivered the goods.

So, what's up with 58-1?  Do they ever plan to join the modern era?

I'm not sure if it was 58's or CBS's fault.

CBS only broadcasts 3 HD games a week.  I did not look to see if the Ravens-Browns was to be an HD game or not.

Given that CBS only does 3 games a week I would be willing to bet that the match up was not exactly high on the HD wish list.

Pretty poor on CBS's part if what we were watching was the "national" game.

Even the Halftime show was SD.

I'm not looking forward to the two Packer games on CBS.  I'm not expecting an HD broadcast on either one.

However the best chance would probably be the New England game.

The late game was NOT broadcast in HD by CBS. 58 passed through what they got from the network.

What about their prime time lineup?  I noticed Cold Case and Without a Trace were both only SD.  Was that because the games went long?

I noticed that both Code Case and Without a Trace were in SD as well.  Wasn't sure that Cold Case was supposed to be in HD, but the intro to Without a Trace advertised in HD 5.1 "where available".

Glad to know that it wasn't "just me" with the same problem.  :bang:

I'm pretty sure that 's the problem, CBS probably fed the programs at the proper time (no delay) but 58 doesn't have the capability to record the HD feed for delayed transmission (YET).

I Find it Funny that I, as an end user, have the ability to time shift HD Programs, while a Television Station in one of the Top 40 markets in the country does not.  I know that it isn't exactly the same, but it can't be that much different.  I'm not complaining, just thinking out loud!

I think there's a lot at issue.  There's just a couple of years until analog goes away, and most, or all of 58's competitors will be close to 100% rectangular in format -- presumably in some level of HD.  Even granting the local monopoly a CBS affiliate has, why not promote HD, since the technology leaders and opinion leaders (I mean "US", of course) already have HD screens?  Their monopoly is shared with NBC, ABC, FOX, etc., too.  Don't 58 and CBS want us to talk glowingly about them being "au courant" when it comes to HD?  I'd want my most influential customers to love me to pieces, and not p*** them off with a Sunday football game in SD.
