Is it possible to pick up HD programs on TWC w/o a box with a TV that has a built in HD tuner?  If so how??

Thanks

Tom Snyder

If you have an HD tuner in it, you may have a cable card slot, too. TWC will come out with one and activate for you.

Of course, if you have an antenna and built-in HD tuner, you can get the local HD's withOUT TWC...

You can also pick up the HD locals (NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, PBS) if your TV has a QAM tuner built-in. Depending on the set, the channel numbers may be a bit odd, but they are out there. (I have a Phillips 30" set with built-in tuner, which works fine for these without a TWC box)

One does have a cable card slot (the DLP) the other one does not, but both have QAM tuners. I'd like to see if I can receive HD stations w/o the box (or cable card).

What channels did you find the HD channels from just straight cable?

Thanks

Just plug the cable into the digital coax input (or cable if your tv has a cable and an antenna coax input) and do a digital scan or digital cable scan.  You'll pick up the locals in HD except for The CW (18) and MyNetworkTV (24).

Me too.  I just called Time Warner and asked them about the Cable Card and they said they wanted $40 to set it up and $1.75 a month.  Looks like they're trying to steer everyone clear of it and make you get a digital box...

Yeah they are at this time trying to steer you clear of it...mainly because of compatibility issues.  That's why there is a service call charge to come out and install it.  However if you don't need the guide or payperview services, the cable card is a great choice.  It may cost $1.75 per month but that sure beats paying $7.95 a month for the box and another $0.30 for the remote.
