Photo slideshow on TV?

Does anyone know what kind of software I would need to put a photo slideshow on my TV?  I want to create a Video CD and place that in my DVD player to play on my TV.  Is that possible?  Is there free software for that?

The version of Roxio Easy CD Creator that came with my computer has the "Create Video CD" option only if I would purchase a more advanced version.  I'm not even sure if that would let me make a photo slideshow anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If this is not possible, I might have to purchase a DVD burner for my computer.  Would that item normally come with the software that I want?

Thanks in advance.

I've got a program I've been using to create Video Slide shows to DVD, it allows me to create chapters, add titles and background music.  I got it with the DVD drive and  after enjoying it I upgraded to their full blown version which allows me to add digital audio and other things.  Works like a charm.  I've tried making CD's and found that every DVD player is different and it won't play on all of them , however all the DVD's I made work on all players.

I did some research before I bought the burner and ended up with the Pioneer DVR107d, of course it's been a while since I bought it...but I'd check reviews on a burner before you buy one.

Thanks Gregg.  What is the name of the software you are using to create Video Slides to DVD?

I use Nero 7 Ultra Edition.  You can get it for $20 after rebate I believe.

Otherwise Microsoft has Photo Story 3, which can be used to make slide shows.  It creates a WMV.  You should be able to open that video in Windows Movie Maker and save it to a video CD.  All of this can be done for free.  I'm not 100% certain that it will work, but it might.  This is also assuming that you have Windows XP.

Thank you both, I will check out what you have suggested.

My wife has started a little side business doing this.  She has bounced back and forth between Ulead and Nero.  I think right now she is using Ulead.

I use my TiVo. It can do slideshows from any computer networked to it.  Then I can use my DVD Recorder to record the slide show from the TiVo if I want to take it else where.  With my A/V receiver, I can pick a different source for audio and put music to the slides too.  :-)

Hi Starving

If you have WinXP, then your all set with all that you need.  Windows movie maker will do the trick real nice.  Has more options than you could imagine.

Thanks Tazman, I will give it a try.

I took a look at it to convert 3 CDs worth of JPEGs my brother sent me to a DVD slide show (since none of my DVD players would show them for some reason) and could not get Windows Movie Maker to make one on DVD.

I picked up Nero7 Ultra and will give that a try hopefully this weekend

I bought two new drives for my computer.  A DVD writer and a DVD read only.  Neither of them came with software.  I tried adding pictures to Windows Movie Maker to create a slideshow and burn it to DVD.  It didn't work.

I think I need to have DVD burning software installed.  Currently I only have CD burning software installed (Roxio Easy CD Creator).

Does anyone have a recommendation for DVD burning software?  Should I buy a powerful one like Nero 7 Ultra, or is that too much capability?  Are there any good free ones?  The reviews at download.com are confusing.  Some people like certain ones and some people can't stand them.

Thanks in advance.

I'd go with Nero. If you keep a lookout for sales, you can get it for cheap (after rebates). In today's paper, Best Buy has it for $59.99 (after $40.00 instant savings). I've seen it alot cheaper.

You can also download a trial version. It's good for 30 days.

Starving,

I used to use Nero until it became to bloated. There are some good free and low-cost DVD-burning solutions if all you want is to burn data DVDs:

Deepburner: http://www.deepburner.com/
AVS Disc Creator: http://www.avsmedia.com/DiscCreator/index.aspx

I've used both myself for basic data discs.

You can do EVERYTHING with Nero. I guess that can be mistaken as "bloated" by some.

Once you get it, you'll be amazed at the number of things that it can be used for.
