QuoteWould you be this upset if there was an Amber Alert issued?
Except we all know that they don't air the Amber alerts. A few weeks before I left there was an Amber alert which was never aired, the next day they preempted all shows for a "It might rain today" notice. TWC did air the Amber Alert on their own system.

As I've said before a rainstorm is not something that needs round the clock coverage. If it's a big one the network already provides multiple slots to air that during breaks.

QuoteBTW, the FCC mandates that emergency bulletins crawled on the SD side MUST
also be crawled on the HD channel. Since there's no real revenue coming in from the HD side, you see what you get.
No the FCC does not require that at all. I've contacted the Milwaukee and WI NOAA reps about this in the past as well.

I think its time for one of you guys to invent a cheap way to have the counties map on top of the hd video and sell it to all th stations.

If that is true, they are in violation..  They are REQUIRED to air amber alerts.

Yes, they do. It is a requirement that was begun this year. Stations have already been fined for NOT doing it.

Joseph S

They don't have to report what the NOAA says. Even more to the point, if they do report what the NOAA says they don't have to do it during programming. Showing all that garbage during programming and/or during the entire program while exempting commercials shows exactly how little they care about the viewer.

I think what Foxeng said was related to Amber Alert not the weather junk.

Joseph S

We had thunderstorms, tornado sighting,  a tunnel collapse, and still have a flash flood warnings everywhere, but HDTV broadcasts went on and continue on as scheduled without interuptions in Boston and CT. :D

Compared to:
"It might rain, but probably won't" bringing all HDTV to a halt in Milwaukee for weeks on end.

Did they run a "Beware of free gas" warning on WISN tonight?  :p

No, it is anything that is of danger of life or property within the coverage area of the staton. If is on the SD channel, it has to be on the HD channel as well. That is the rule.

Quote from: GilbertActually, the area the Storm Prediction Center put under the watch DID get hit with severe weather, though many areas didn't see it. Milwaukee had 4" of rain in an hour. That's not just "rain". Also, nickel-sized hail and 60 MPH winds blasted them and Kenosha county, parts of which also got flash flooding. They did their duty as a TV station to broadcast life-saving information. Just because YOU aren't getting anything doesn't mean that the information won't save someone else's life, or potential injury.

I for one say Thank God WISN alerted us to this weather apocalypse. It would have been a tragedy if someone in the area had been watching WISN MINUS the life-saving Weather Watch, gone outside, been blown off balance by the 60mph winds, landed in a large puddle produced by the torrential rainfall, and drowned - if they were not first pelted to death by the nickel-sized hail! We truly owe WISN a debt of gratitude.

Thanks as well to WISN for wisely leaving the overlay switch back in the "SD" position after this was all over - it probably saved several people in the area from heart attacks caused by excessive excitement over a high-quality picture on their HD sets. Where would we be without WISN looking out for us?

My god, I can't even imagine how those savages in Boston and Chicago live without this kind of life-saving information on their network HD feeds. It's great to be in civilization!

Where were you today, WISN? There was an official heat advisory from the National Weather Service in effect all day today. It was almost 100 degrees outside and from what I saw (admittedly, I only tuned in briefly), there was NO warning whatsoever on your HD feed. I went outside today and I could have died. Is a thunderstorm watch really a bigger deal than potentially lethal heat over the entire viewing area?

Perhaps WISN should remember the heat wave that swept across France in 2003, in which 10,000 people died of heat-related causes. I think WISN's motive behind the "Weather Watches" is now perfectly clear. It doesn't matter to WISN if people die from the weather - what WISN cares about is appearing "on the ball" and "concerned" during the big-ratings stuff like the World Cup, NBA Finals, NCAA football, etc.

WISN you are a disgrace.

They can kiss my @ss for interrupting Wife Swap last night.

To everyone not tuned into WISN right now -- RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!! There is pea-sized hail and up to 2 inches/hour of rain coming in out of Madison at 5mph. Find high ground immediately and wear body armor and scuba gear for protection. I'm not at home right now to check, but I sure hope there's a Weather Watch to alert the viewing area of this catastrophe in the making!!

Can we please tone down the stupidity.

Edit:  Okay, nevermind.  There is a warning for Jefferson, and I don't know why.  Sorry.

kjnorman

Well Madison and parts of Waukasha did have flooding yesterday due to the storms....
