I am going to install a wangguard ANT at a freinds house in Oconomowoc, He is in a new house large atic, does not want to put ANT on roof (no rotor) As a guess, how many miles will he lose if ANT is in atic and not on the roof. I have a roof ANT, pretty small one really and I get all locals in madison and milwaukee, I also live in Oconomowoc. Any thoughts welcome thanks.FYI, it is a winegard HD-7084P. boom is 131 inchs I get these for around 75.00 seem to work well thanks

I am getting with attic ChannelMaster 4228 Chicago HD OTA (71 miles from Sears tower). So, if you don't have obstructions then it should work. Good luck. And good decision to try attic first.

I might just get a preamp so I don't have to add it later, he is on the corner of HWY67 and CW, no obstructions. Clear sky.

I've read that you lose about 50% of the antenna's gain by mounting it inside your attic. I think that was on Weingard's website.

I've heard that 1/2 signal strength issue.  However, I have moved twice in the last three years.  I lived in Jefferson for about a year and a half.  I had one heck of a time trying to pull in everything well.  I tried every antenna under the son.  Could not pull in a thing out of the attic.  I eventually put up a tower with a CM4228 and pulled in all the locals out of Madison(except Fox(VHF) and most of the MIlwaukee locals except Fox6(not strong at the time).

Now I live in Fort Atkinson, only 5 miles away.  I put the CM4228 in the attic of the garage and Walaa, nearly 100% signal on all Madison Locals which I decided to stay with since E* will eventually have Milwaukee locals anyway.   I added a VHF only antenna made by antenna craft and combined the two antennas and also get Fox47 near 100%.   These two things I did (attic and combining) are supposed to weaken the signal dramatically , however I am 35 miles from Madison and get near perfect signals?  I can't explain it, other than location, location, location.

Good Luck!

The house is at Hwy67 and CW, In Oconomowoc, New subdivision, In the crawel spacer/atic I used a pole bracket for Ant's and a pole, Hung the ant from the rafters found the sweet spot no rotor/ and He gets both Madison and Milwaukee, 24-1 does drop out 55 to 60 strength, comes in fine if I spin ant but he does not want a rotor, and he gets sister channel from Mad town. Used a preamp that made all the difference. He deleted all the anologe stuff but he really does not need it. Just wanted to post results thanks for the feed back.
