New Format at 102.1, your thoughts?

Who thought this is a format that can last awhile? Everybody calling in hates it. Just in case you didn't know, they play 5 sec clips of your favorite parts of your favorite songs. That's it. Nothing else.

I doubt this is the permanent format.  I'm sure they are just stunting till the new format is ready to be rolled out.   Its an interesting concept, but no, there is no way this current format would work.

but my question is, when Lazer103 changed I remember WLUM saying this is awesome! Why change the format now?

Tim C says, in his blog, that there is no format change but some on-air voices will change.

I'd love to see Opie and Anthony syndicate here. I've been listening to them since December of 2004. Intelligent, irreverent and non-formula radio hosts.

My guess is that WISN fired the DJ who constructed the music sequence for the Big Bang fireworks.  102.1 hired that individual and somehow he or she created this mess.

My prediction, if they don't change soon, their advertisers and listeners will abandon them.

They could do what 102.9 did.  Make a big hoopla about the sweeping changes, rename themselves, and do exactly what they were doing before the big "change".

102.1 was the only station I listened to anymore, and I had a long drive to make today, and I couldn't stand listening to this "format."  I hope they go back to exactly the way they were.  If some voices change, so be it.  When did the switch occur?  Did the morning show introduce this or what?  grrrrrrr.....

Hmmm.  Maybe time to check them out again.  I stopped listening last time they changed format and got rid of Bob and Tom.

102.9 did make some format changes.  They play a little "harder" rock more often.  Less of the soft music.  Best change they made was getting rid of fish.  I actually have started listening to 102.9 except in the morning.  Still can't take the amateur radio show.  It puts me to sleep and is only 25% funny.

It'll be interesting to see who they place in the morning slot this time.  The show they had didn't hook me at all.  I only listened a few times though, and only for a few minutes each time.  So maybe it got better.

The change happened sometime on Sunday night/Monday morning.  Their morning show guys were talking about it and supposedly taking phone calls about it. I only caught the end of their show so I don't know exactly

Anybody know if it's possible to install a high-powered antenna in your car?  I have a regular powered raising antenna in one car, and an antenna installed on the rear window in another car.  I'd like to get Madison and Chicago stations if possible.  This was the last straw!  :bang:  :bang:  :bang:

Two letters for you, my friend: XM

Or Sirius, either way. Both work just fine.

Had XM when it first launched.  I get it free with D* now.  I still don't prefer it, and refuse to pay $15/month for it.

Ok. Money aside, why don't you prefer XM (or Sirius) ?

I dumped it too (XM).  Over compression.  Some channels sound like you are listening to an mp3 track recorded at 96kb/s or less.  The MLB basesball channels were at best AM quality... without the anoying 'side tones'.

Now I just load my own mp3 disks in the CD changer in the truck.

Well first off, I never had or listened to Sirius.  I chose XM when it was still $10/month.  The only reason other than the price was the fact that XM had more dance/electronica stations at the time.  During the time I paid for XM, I noticed the song variety on the stations I listened to was really not much better than what I got locally.  All the stations played their "normal" rotation with a mixup here and there.  Yes, I did hear new music and artist/bands that would NEVER be played in the Milwaukee market, but I decided it was not worth it after a while.  That and what mhz40 added pretty much summed up why I dumped it about a year and a half after I got it.  Add to that a new 30GB iPod was given to me, and I really have yet to look back.  I can hear new bands on myspace or streaming radio if I choose, download them, add them to a playlist, and listen whenever I want.  I still listen to the local stations for news, traffic, and weather, but that is really it.
