I haven't heard anything either... using the digital output to my decoder.

Is there any chance you're just hearing the reading/writing of the hard drive?  I imagine there's a lot more data being moved on an HD channel than an SD channel.  Because of the ability to rewind live TV, I think the box is always writing to the hard drive, then reading the drive to show you the program.

I don't have a TWC DVR box anymore, but I had it for about a year when they first came out, and I remember being able to hear the hard drive reading and writing (even if the box was turned off and not displaying a program).

It could also be an issue with your surround sound decoder (if you're using one). A friend of mine used to have a bad KLH that would put ticking sounds and background noise into the sound if something had a higher bitrate 448kbps Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack on it (most DVD's, for example), but it was fine with the lower bitrate 384kbps 5.1 of most cable channels.

Do you notice the same issue when you're watching something in 5.1 but it's not in HD? Most movies on any of the standard definition Showtime/TMC channels are in 5.1, that might be a good test.

It's counting down until the day it quits working.   :wave:  What you need to fear is what happens when it quits ticking!   {fart}
