Question about my Samsung LCD

I didn't want my new 46" LCD to sit in storage for two-three months while we wait for our house to be done, and the people that bought our old house also bought my 40 in RPT.  So I brought the LCD into the temporary apartment, where we watch it from about 10 feet away. The HD stuff is actually pretty sweet from that distance, but Wide Screen stuff on MPTV HD  is awful, and Analog SD on all the toher channels just sucks. 24-2 is so bad it's impossible to watch and the song info on the Music Choice channels looks horrendous... all blocky with noise around the text.  The PPV and InDemand screens are almost impossible to read because the text is grainy and blocky, too.

Is that just the nature of the screen size and the closeness? We'll be about 17 feet away in the new place, but there's no way for us to get that far away in the apartment to see what that will look like.

Are you using a cable card or a STB???  The conversion on most STB's are pretty good, but some internal tuners aren't as good.

I'm not real impressed with our Samsung LN-S40929 we have in our conference room. Lots of artifacts and faces look pasty. I see stuff in the LCD that I don't see in other crt monitors.
My HD Camcorder looks pretty good on it however.

I have my old 8300, but I get the same results with  OTA using the internal tuner, too.

No complaints about the color, contrast or black levels...just the PQ... it almost looks like a jpg saved at maximum compression

Just nature of the SD source. History's Detectives didn't look too good, neither was The Texas Ranch House few months back.

Don't know why they didn't just shoot it in HD instead of 480P widescreen?
