I just got a great deal on a pre-order for the new upcoming 2006 Sony KDS60A2000 60" 1080P HDTV!  My wife and I are not big fans of making a purchase this big over the internet and letting UPS, FedEx, or the USPS get their hands on our new third member of the family, so we resolved to buy locally.  I found out that American is taking pre-orders on the new 2006 Sonys; I also found out that Best Buy currently has a "12% off" coupon floating around out there for the "Reward Zone" members.  I went to American in Oak Creek and asked if they would be willing to match the coupon on a pre-order for the new Sony 60" (due out July 17th).  The salesman talked to the manager and he said "yes"!  He even agreed to apply the 12% off on any other electronics that I would also purchase.  So, I got the KDS60A2000 for $3255.99 (cheaper than you can currently get the leftover 2005 models for) and also tacked on a 5 year in-home parts / labor warranty for only $149.  Pretty sweet!

I suppose thats a great price, if it was an XBR SXRD.

Welcome and thank you for the information.
Many folks are not as slick as you are in getting the best price, especially on new technology sets like this second-generation model SXRD with the slim-sided cabinet and two (2) 1080p inputs...great shopping.  :D

Seems as though you are as keen a shopper as at least I think, I am, too.
Remember that some stores do not include bulb replacements and I think the one you went to does not, so be prepared.
Additionally, it is great to have the spouse like yours be so on-board with a HDTV set like this, especially in this 60" size....great for you.

Let us know (or PM me if possible) about how the picture is, any concerns and if you got the stand (or what stand) to  go with it....thanks!

My wife and I HATE the "dumbo ears" on last year's and this year's XBR models; IMHO they are flat out a stupid waste of space and look like something from "The Jetsons" cartoon show.  Do you know of a cheaper LOCAL price on the new 60" non-XBR?  If you do, please share...

I already purchased a credenza from another JSP so I won't be getting the matching Sony stand.  I'm hoping to have everything setup in our new TV room by the end of the month; I'll let everybody know what I think of the new set.  I can't wait to get it setup!!!

I believe the new XBR's won't have those.

Probably not; (from what I've heard) it takes 6 to 8 months include new technology into electronics.  1.3 was approved only a month or two ago.  The A2000's are in production already.  I don't feel that I'll need it in a television; the big benefit from 1.3 will be the new high def audio formats from Dolby and DTS.  I'll get a HDMI 1.3 reciever after they come out and that should be good enough for me.

Don't worry about buying online and having it shipped to your house.  How do you think TV's get to American or Best Buy, etc...?  Yup, on a truck just like the one that will bring it to your house.

I saved a bundle buying my 61" JVC online.

the new XBR are scheduled for Fall and curently priced at $5300 for the 60" let's hope Sony drops the price...

look at the table in the review for some info on the upcoming Sony SXRD's.

True, but the REALLY tough thing about buying online is if you have to return it.  You then face possible restocking fees and shipping fees.  I feel that I got a good deal on the A2000; I doubt my price will be much higher than the online prices when it comes out.  We're happy :)

Sony has moved the ETA of the KDS60A2000 to on or about July 24th; American has moved their date to July 26th.

You got a great deal! My neighbor went to buy a 2005 SXRD with a "10% off everything" coupon from CC. We went there and they said it was only for "non-sale items", hmmm, what's not "on sale". Anyway, American and Flanners actually matched the price AND took 10% off because of the coupon.
Did American say your TV would be available on the 26th? I'm looking to get the 60" A2000 also.
