yesterday I came across a post from Jim Hall regarding splitting the VHF and UHF signals and attenuating one of them to reduce overload and signal mixing (see this posting: http://www.milwaukeehdtv.org/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000016.html

I stopped at radio-shack on the way home and picked up 2 uhf/vhf splitter/combiners and a single 6db attenuater.  Padding down the signal on the vhf side seems to give the best results.  I want to add another 6db attenuater and will still be experimenting over the weekend with exact antennae direction, the antennae power amplifier, and fm trapping.

this definitely helped, I have a consistent 24 signal strength (not very high compared to the 90's on 12 and 4 but the important thing is it's enough to get consistent results).

I watched two hours of CSI (reruns) last night and noticed short signal interruptions (about a second or two) every 5 minutes or so - any reason for that? (I saw another posting with same phenomenom)

I will go over more combinations over the weekend and post the results

I guess we could call this another success story for MilwaukeeHDTV.....even if the info isn't readily available someone comes to the rescue.  Scott looks like you are on the way to curing your reception problems....enjoy your CBS 1080i broadcasts.

I watched two hours of CSI (reruns) last night and noticed short signal interruptions

May not have been you... I watched them, too. And got a few signal interuptions even though I have a signal strength of 90... Once it locked up so bad I had to change the channel back and forth to get it going again.

The question I have for you is how you can get a watchable lock with a signal strength of 24... that's what I get for Fox6, but have never seen even a single pixel of picture from them.

I also get only a 22 signal from FOX, but have yet to see a picture. Funny thing is when I was trying to get a signal from them, everytime I held the coax where it meets the 300 ohm connecter, I got a picture. As soon as I let go...it disappeared. My body was acting as some sort amp for it, but a real signal amp did nothing.
I guess I will have to have my 8 year old stnad in the attic holding the antenna so Dad canwatch digital football !!

I should be clear that when I say 23 signal strength for me that measurement is based on a meter that is provided as part of the software that came with my hdtv tuner card (for a pc).  I do not know how that value correlates to a strength signal with other types of measurement equipment.  (I have posted a question regarding this on the pc cards forum but as of yet haven't got a decent answer).

It is interesting though, I had previous, strange results also like a signal in the 40's but no picture or sound, and then to my surprise a signal in the 20's with picture and sound.
