Good stuff, guys! I stopped in at the American on 76th and, as we figured, no Pannies. The Pioneers they had looked great, but I didn't see a 50 inch. It'll still be a few months before I have to get it, and I suspect the prices won't go up... may even go down?

Tom, if you are close to a Best Buy, they have both the Pioneer and Panasonic 50" plasmas - they do at the Southridge store where I made the comparisons.
drgingras is right, the Elite is great and if their Elite A/V receivers are great (I have the top-of-line) the plasmas should be be top-notch, too.
Pioneer makes an excellent product and you should try to find a way to see them in plasmas. ;)

QuoteThey carry Pioneer, so that might be your best bet. One nice thing about the Pioneer is that the inputs are in a separate box, so you will have only one cable going to the monitor.
What kind of cable is that? The salesman there said that for the length it will need to go, that cable will be $600

Ouch. I guess it's special cable.

Does this mean you might get the pioneer?

One of those cables looks like its just a DVI cable.  I'm not sure about the other one though.

Had to make a decision last night, as we're roughing in the space in the construction where the tv will go, and needed my extact set dimensions.

I just couldn't pull the trigger on the Pioneer...it was $5k PLUS the $600 cable. The builder promotion limits the total amount they'll offer 50% off of to $5k. I wanted a 32 inch for the sunroom, too, and really needed to get my wall mounts as part of the deal, too, and didn't want to blow it all on just one TV.

I looked at the other stuff they had available, and couldn't find another 50" that would fit the space (I only have a maximum of 34 by 50 inches in a shallow alcove to work with, so I can leave a couple inches al the way around for ventilation). The Pioneer was only 29 inches high, but everything else they had was 33-34 inches tall.

So I ended up going with the Samsung LN-S4692D 46" LCD. Seems to get pretty decent reviews over at AVS, fits the space, and left me with enough money left over to get a 32 inch JVC. I also got my wall mounts, including articulated ones for the sunroom and for another set we already have in the master bedroom.  All for a Grand Total of $2,484.00 out of pocket...

Of course, I had to buy a house to get it, but hey!

I think I did OK, but if I've made a huge mistake, please let me know. I'm not picking them up for a month, so I can still change my mind.. but I'll have to find a substitute for the larger one that will be almost exactly 45 by 30 inches. :)

P.S. BTW, Gregg... Jeff Krier said to say "hi!"

I guess you didn't care for the panasonic or the limited dimensions excluded them?

The 50" 60U is 32.2"x48" and 600U is 31.6"x50".

Quote from: Tom SnyderThat's good advice. Our Rear projection has a shiney surface, and we get light glare unless we turn off certain lights. New house is new version of the same model we live in now, and the TV's going in the same exact location so we'll have that same problem.. of course, I could just turn off the same lights. :)

Shoulda used the 50% off on a different house lol

Tom Snyder

The only 50 inch Panasonic they carry is the TH50PX60, 33inches tall. :(

DOH! Whay didin't *I* think of that?  :bang:

Actually, with the LCD, the surface is less shiney, so that solves that problem. :)
