I am sorry but I have to say this:

This is getting f****** childish,  give it up.

I disagree. Information today was released at 5:54pm from NOAA. It was not shown on any channels then or during their entire news broadcast at 6pm, Jeopardy, etc. up through primetime programming. Primetime starts and suddenly no HD movie of the week on WISN and we've got weather garbage throughout.

Quote from: tbuilerI actually got a polite response from WISN.  It doesn't really change anything, but at least it shows they're aware of the issue.  Here's what I recieved:

Thank you for your comments regarding WISN-TV's weather coverage during
ABC's "Lost."  When severe weather poses a threat anywhere in our viewing
area, we're committed to providing that information to the public. As you
know, changing weather conditions are unpredictable and can result in
unexpected interruptions to regular programming.

While Channel 12 will always put public safety concerns first, please know
that we're always sensitive to how these interruptions impact the flow of a
program - particularly an HD show.  We're hopeful that new technologies
will eventually allow WISN (and other stations) to display weather alert
information without converting our HD to standard definition

I received the exact same response....

If the locals are so committed to this "public service", then don't abandon the tactic durning commercials or local news.
One thing I do have to add about WISN, at least they squeze the picture so you can recover some of the original format by using stretch mode.

While they did squeeze the picture, it was applied to the SD 4X3 picture, so we completely lost the sides of the picture, and the quality is compromised by by the squeezing and unsqueezing process.

I'm not sure which is worse, preserving the original aspect ratio in a tiny box (as done by WTMJ), or losing the side information a squishing the picture.  Both are horribly distracting.

A small, discreet overlay for (serious conditions only) would solve this problem, but we'll have to wait for that to happen.

Hopefully, viewer feedback may speed that process along.

None of the local stations issue their own watches or warnings. I know Oklahoma City stations issue their own warnings and alerts, which ticks off the NWS. There may be other markets that do that too, but definitely not around here. All of the graphics and break-ins are strictly forewarding information from the NWS.

Quote from: mhz40Somehow the locals have the ability to add a channel 'bug' in the lower right corner of the HD display... simply change the look of it to indicate that a special weather statement is available on your SAP channel.  For a tornado warning, add a small twister... for a sever T storm, add a hail stone or something.

Didn't they used to do that?  I think channel 10 still does.. they just put a cloud/lightning bolt in the corner when a severe storm warning is in the area and other icons for the various types of watches/warnings.  I wish that were the case for all the channels.  I don't need to see the radar for the entire show.  If I need to know what's going on outside, I either look or I go to a weather channel.  There are so many methods of getting weather information, the local stations shouldn't have to interrupt the shows as bad as they do now.

Severe Thunderstorm warning for Racine....

WISN 10+ minutes until after commercials and until ABC network programming is back on to shove their crap on you.

Not surprisingly, with only Montel on and no national programming NBC4 has not put jack up.

Of course, everyone here was already expecting thunderstorms and is not planning to hide in a bunker if it rains so it's all still pathetic.

They also failed to do this for the Amber Alert issued yesterday. Where's the public service angle????

Better yet.  Keep bitching, Joseph.  Nothing changes if people don't complain.

When you constantly bitch about everything, people tend to no longer listen!

Joseph's "constant bitching" finally got me to email WISN and voice my displeasure. :)

That's my point.

And you're more likely to be ignored fairly quickly if you are incredibly unpleasant to talk to. Which was my point all along.
