It's a copy cat business, and none of the GMs in charge have the balls to do something different.  Ratings "rule", and for some reason there is this prevailing thought process that "thinks" viewers WANT to see severe weather bugs on their screen.  This line of thinking is about as accurate as Mark Baden's weather forecast!

gcarnachan

They finally changed it back, stupid ppl.

SRW1000

Well, they finally made the switch to HD at around 8:43.

Very late and very disappointing.

I also sent a message to Tim Cuprisin.  It would be interesting to see why station managers make the decisions they do when it comes to weather bugs.

"If you can't respect that you're whole perspective is whack."

But watch out boys, it MIGHT thunderstorm where you live.  ;)

I question Cuprisin's objectivity, seeing as that he is EMPLOYED by Journal Communications which owns TMJ 4.  Granted, he does bitch about the over hype of severe weather, but I wouldn't look to him as a one stop resource for criticism of MKE television.

Back to SD at 9:05 PM and then back to HD at 9:06 PM.  Then back to SD to let us know the warnings are over, but a watch is still in effect.

Pathetic.

Couple things here...

I know you're angry... but language like this is a good way to get the thread closed. And if we warn and it doesn't stop, we start banning users. Please re-read the rules.

Tim hasn't given me any reason to question his objectivity. And I know what his response will be... it is always the same and it is right. Viewership of local TV goes through the roof when threatening weather is coming. The perecentage of people who want HD is still insignificant compared to the percentage of people who want o see the warnings and the radar.

At least they didn't pre-empt it for 10 minutes of Mark Baden talking the weather.

Although I wouldn't know as I DVR'ed it (and American Idol), both of which stopped recording at 8:07 when we had a power flash. Did you know that when that happens, and the DVR comes back up, it doesn't resume recording?  :guns:  :Shoot:  :bang:  {shoot in

The percentage of people who want to see network programming in HD and SD >> the percentage of people who want to see warnings and the radar. Also, the people that want to see warnings and radar don't turn to stations that are supposed to be running national programming because they know they won't see what they want to see.

Still no rain.

The flip side to this argument, is if HD viewership is so small and insignificant compared to SD viewership, why not just show the HD program in HD and skip the weather alerts on the digital channel?

That way, analog viewers can still see all the weather information, and HD viewers can still see what they want.

The other annoying factor tonight is that some of the programming was cut off after the commercial breaks and between weather updates.

Tonight's episode was a good example of how not to handle things.

I would like to think that some good might come of all this, but I don't exactly have my hopes up.

There's actually a graphic at 9:17 which shows zero counties are affected by any dangerous color affliction.

I'm so glad I will never have to rely on the Wiz again. I've just verified that my east coast PVR got the whole thing in HDTV.

Wow.  I just want to say one thing, and please don't hate me for it.  We are early adopters still in the minds of tv stations.  And it does suck.  I have often wondered why they do that.  I would like to know why every time American Idol was on, the HD signal was always dropped for a second or two, and why there are always breakups in the audio.  Every other FOX program is fine.

My 2 cents.

(P.S.  I do like WISN, but mainly for their news)

The SD viewers aren't and they were screwed over too.
