CW ADDS EIGHT SINCLAIR STATIONS TO LINEUP  Affiliations bring new network's station coverage to over 90%.

CW and Sinclair Broadcast Group announced today affiliation agreements for Sinclair's stations in Minneapolis, Baltimore, Raleigh, Nashville, Milwaukee, Oklahoma City and Las Vegas.

The addition of these eight Sinclair stations increases CW's national coverage to more than 90% of the country, including all of the top 40 markets.

The newly signed affiliates and their market ranks are:

    * KMWB Minneapolis (DMA No.15).
    * WNUV Baltimore (DMA No.24).
    * WLFL Raleigh-Durham (Fayetteville), N.C. (DMA No. 29).
    * WNAB Nashville (DMA No.30).
    * WVTV Milwaukee (DMA No.33).
    * WTTO &WDBB Birmingham-Tuscaloosa, Ala.;simulcast on WDBB (DMA No. 40).
    * KOCB OklahomaCity (DMA No. 45).
    * KFBT LasVegas (DMA No. 48).

All of these stations are currently WB affiliates, with the exception of KFBT, which is an independent. Sinclair operates WNUV and WDBB under a local marketing agreement. Sinclair provides sales and other non-programming related services for WNAB under an outsourcing agreement; the station is owned by Lambert Broadcasting.

Okay, I was hoping that TWC would finally get the UPN and WB on HD, but now that it is becoming the CW network and SBG gets them for transmission in the Milwaukee area...this sucks just one more time!
 :mad:
Forum members:
Not all of us can get OTA or want to use an antenna - hence the reason we have cable for HD and like to record it with as little as possible upfront costs, too, even IF we can get HD OTA. :D

Jimboy:
Thank you for the update and the anger is not directed towards you.
It is towards TWC and SBG:
Once again, TWC HD customers get screwed this fall for another local HD channel we will never get! :bang:

This is great news!  I was worried that we might be losing the network affiliation in the Milwaukee area.

Now, we just have to wait and see what shows get carried over from WB and UPN.

That is nice news Jimboy.  Your stream of income should be secure for a while.

Now the question is, what will become of 24-1's prime time programming?  I know you have mentioned that a feature movie would fill that time pretty well.  58-2 uses that strategy too.  I don't watch the movies on 58-2 because they don't have DD sound and widescreen.  I hope if 24-1 offers primetime movies, it can push out at least DVD quality widescreen with surround sound.

WCGV 24 will be a MyNetwork TV affiliate.

I'm very happy to see WVTV land the CW affiliation along with WCGV having an affiliation with My Network.  I can't believe all the hype against SBG.  I didn't realize till this afternoon there is a website petitioning The CW Network not to affiliate with any station O&O by SBG because of their "right-wing" political views.  No indication who is directly responsible for the website, but I assume it was the liberals, the pro-Kerry groups.

Actually was very happy that SBG took a stand against Kerry, unfortunately they didn't see the mess Bush was and is in.

But that shouldn't matter anymore since NewsCentral has died, and now they can't offer their political viewpoints.  Actually I think this is probably what caused NewsCentral not to succeed when they pulled a couple of "Nightline" segments on their ABC affiliates as well as the anti-kerry program.

As for getting info from SBG, it has been easier now then it used to be.  At first they never were respondent to viewers but now they seem to be.  At least from what I notice.  Just cause SBG had some bad apples in the past, there is always hope they learn their lesson and always have room for improvement.

John L: This is an HDTV forum, not a political one. :mad:

It is great for Milwaukee that it has the CW for fall, as it is important to have all our networks, regardless of who/what does the of delivery.

As for me, I am very unhappy that SBG is delivering the CW as a TWC HD  subscriber, but glad Milwaukee still has all of its HD locals...a very good thing. ;)

I too am glad that Milwaukee has a CW affiliate, though I never doubted we'd get one.

Also, I too am especially dismayed that SBG will be delivering it. That is not to say I disagree with TWC for standing up to SBG - I endorse this wholeheartedly, even though the result is that I can't see SBG's channels in HD.

I was sort of hoping beyond hope that WMLW would find some way to become the CW affiliate... oh, well.

Eventually TWC and SBG will come to an agreement over HD signals, otherwise SBG will loose viewers to its stations and I doubt they will let that happen.  Right now as it stands, WVTV and WCGV are NOT making any money with their DTV operations.  All its business right now is depended on their analog signal.  But when they shut off that analog signal and if TWC is faced with a "must carry" rule SBG may win out.  But if the "must carry" rule does not apply to DTV, then eventually SBG will sacrifice and do whatever they can to have their DTV signals on cable.  But this probably won't happen for at least a few years near when the dealine approaches for all TV stations to shut off the analog transmitters.

Either way it will happen that WVTV-HD and WCGV-HD will get on cable.  Its just a matter of time and it looks like a longtime too.

Do you happen to know what kind of programming MyNetwork TV offers, or will offer?  My web search didn't lead me to that entity or network.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jimboy.

The programming they mentioned doesn't sound too interesting to me.

I really dislike how the networks copy each other so heavily.  Sometimes they even copy themselves with the 12 Law & Orders and 12 CSIs  :rolleyes:

Two of my favorite shows, Lost and Alias, are not cookie cutter copies of other programs available elsewhere.  I think that is part of what appeals to me.

Oh well, at least these companies are keeping people employed.

Jimboy,

    Now that Sinclair has cleared the rights to broadcast "The Tube" 24/7 on a digital side channel, who's gonna carry it? 18-2, or 24-2?

It will be sent on 24-2.
