Fox's 6-1 digital reception

Hi Folks: I've been posting here about how disappointed I have been with the picture of my HDTV STB outputting OTA HD signals. Well, today I was tuned in to Channel 6-1 to watch the NY Giants vs Philly and to my utter amazement, the picture was truly awesome. I changed the res. setting to 720 on the rear of the STB yesterday per someones suggestion and swapped component cables from the good ones connected to the PS DVD player and the cheapos that came with the SIR-T165 STB. Anyway, it kind of renewed my hope and belief in all of this electronic wizardry! I'm assuming the Hitachi RPTV would upconvert the signal to 1080i, if in fact the broadcast was in that digital format. The entire 16:9 screen was full (compared to 12-1,1-1,1-2,etc.)throughout the game and changed only with the commercials! I'm still rock hard over this!
Did you experience this great broadcast?

I too live in Milwaukee and cannot receive their patheic signal.....

Ya know....I fooled around for like 2 hours trying to get FAUX's signal with my antenna for that game. I did get it for about 10 min. with serious  freezing and drops, but I will admit the picture looked gorgeous (which is why I continued to try and get it!)

The two thoughts in my head were:
-Man am I glad FAUX doesn't have the Superbowl this year  and....
-Why doesn't FAUX boost their signal a little more?

I can't wait for FAUX to be embarrassed by CBS's true 1080i coverage of the AFL  play-offs.

I watched the Packer game.  Yes, it was nice to watch it in widescreen and yes, the picture was somewhat better but it has a long way to go from CBS's HD games.  Plus, CBS' use of DD 5.1 is far better then Fox(If Fox even uses it?)

Brett, By the way, I have a mits that does 480 or 1080 (no 720).  If I tried setting my SIR-t151 to 720p, I don't think I would get a picture? Does your Hitachi output 720P? Do you think the better picture was more due the cables or the 720p setting on the box?

Very Curious

RRP: Most HDTVs don't support 720p resolution format, instead they "upconvert" the 720p signal to 1080i. So ABCs broadcasts (and whatever other broadcast are in 720p {I believe Fox's 6 is in SDTv; 480i or p}) are ALL upconverted to 1080i, which is not necessarily a "good" thing! Your Mits most likely does the same thing.

As for the PQ issue, all I can do here is "confess" that I broke a cardinal rule of troubleshooting in that I changed more than ONE parameter before I retested the results! So, monssieur, I can't say at this minute that the resolution setting change made the difference or that it was the cables! Oops!
And, to add insult to injury (?), I still feel that Fox's Digital 6-1 temporarily did the Philly/ Giants' game in HD at 720p. Yes?????
