D* H20 - Issues with 6.1 OTA

I bought an H20 last weeked to replace my H10.  Since they were free after rebate, I thought I'd get ready for the MPEG4 rollout.

I swapped it in yesterday, and have run into a problem.  Whenever I go to channel 6.1, my H20 reboots itself.  The 480i/480p/720p/1080i indicator lights will cycle, then the box will go through the process of acquiring D* channels from the satellite.  This only happens when I try to view 6.1 - all other OTA and D8 channels work fine.

I called D*.  A CSR told me this was a recently discovered issue, first logged with them on 2/27/2006.  Since these STBs have been on the market for several months, I had a hard time believing that.  But she said they believed it was related to a recent software update they had pushed, and they were working on a resolution.

Her short-term solution was for me to remove 6.1 from my list of OTA channels.  Fortunately, I have D*'s East coast feed of Fox, so I cans till watch FOX HD shows.

Has anyone else had this problem?  If, as the CSR says, this is an issue that has already been logged, I figured someone else in the area may have the same issue...

I am using a 3-LNB dish and I have the installed the B Band Converter that came with the H20.

As a matter of fact I too have the problem. I purchased the H20 on Saturday 2/25 hooked it up, hit 6-1 and bam! Reset.

I called DTV that afternoon to report the problem. I was close to returning to the box for a new one.

DTV is aware of the problem. I got the same response.

Also over on the Satellite guys  it has been reported and it's possibly a local problem with Fox 6.

It may related to their PSIP info.  Several other markets have reported the problem with their local Fox affiliates.

I'm going to contact Fox6 and let them know I'm having a problem with 6-1. I don't know if locally they can do anything about it but, I think I'll just let them know of the issue.

It's OK for now because of Fox 5 out of New York.

BTW if you get stuck in the reset loop while the box is on 6-1, try this. You have to be quick with the remote.

When the box is done aquiring the info and returns to the broadcast QUICKLY change the channel up or down away from 6-1 and you'll be fine. If you're too slow it will reset again and again.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.  Not glad for you, though. :)

I'll call Fox 6 too.  It wouldn;t hurt for them to hear from multiple people on this. Folks at HDTVoice.com have mentioned to ask specifically for the station engineer.  They also said it was probably a PSIP stream issue.

I did figure out that channel change trick.

By the way, I get home last night and 6-1 was working for me.  Until about 10pm, then it started again.

Following up.

I spoke with an engineer at Fox 6.  He said he didn't think it was a PSIP problem since he hadn't heard from anyone else yet, but he would check into it.

Things I told him:
- This is the only local channel with which I'm having an issue.
- The H20 is a newer receiver, and it will eventually replace most H10s.  so his dpeartment will probably be getting more calls on the issue as the H20 becomes more prevalent in Milwaukee.
- My H20 was made by Manufacturer# 600, which is LG I think.
- Others are having the same issue, and a PSIP stream issue has been mentioned as a culprit.  Here's the other site I had been posting on: http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showpost.php?p=147627&postcount=10
- He is aware of this site.  When I mentioned that a few web sites were talking about this issue, he asked if it was HDTVMilwaukee.com.

So, Talos or anyone else, if you have this issue, you should contact them too.

I'd have to agree that it's probably not a PSIP issue, as they made a change of some sort over the past month.  I was having problems with my Samsung TS360 where it would lose the Fox 6.1 channel and put it into the deleted channel list...this would happen at least once a day, usually more.  Since they made a PSIP change, I haven't lost the channel at all (probably about 3 weeks).

Same problem here.  Called D* and they tried a few things, forced a software update, reset the receiver, reflashed the access card, but didn't fix it.  So they sent out a new receiver and the same thing is happening.  I didn't realize that it was only happening on 6-1 until I plugged this one in though.  Seems to happen more when Fox 6 is in local programming for some reason.  Seems like whenever I'm getting a national HD feed, it works OK.  I do not have the national Fox feed though.  I called them once and they said I was not eligible because local channels are available over the dish in Milwaukee.

Check channel 88, Fox 5 out of New York.  You should have it available. Channel 6 is Owned and operated (O&O) by Fox.  This allows you to watch the national feed.

Fox 6 digital IS NOT available in our area (yet).

That's how I'm watching Fox network programming during this local "issue".

If it's not active call DTV and tell them your local Fox affiliate is O&O and you should be getting it. Don't let the CSR tell you any different. Kepp bumping up the CSR tree until you get it.

Sorry to hear you have the same issue, but I'm glad it's not just me.  I still have the problem, too.  Could you call Fox6 and let them know you are having the issue?  414-355-6666 Ask for their broadcast engineer.  If they hear from more people, perhaps they will look into it.

Maybe it's related to 720P content?  I know we have WISN listed on this site as 720P, but my mind (which is often wrong about these things  ) says that 6.1 is the only 720P in town...

I am having the same problems with 6.1 resetting the H20 receiver. This problem startds on 2/26. Calling D* i was told to replace the box which I did the next day. After activating the replacement box everything was fine until it downloaded the 6FO6 patch. Then it started all over again. To bad the original software can't be downloaded.  I am wondering how hard they are working on the problem seeing that the rollout of local HD service is scheduled for May. Which means more money for another antenna upgrade. I think that tomorrow I will email Contact 6 and see if they can atleas get me the national Fox feed.

If you want the national Fox feed (channel 88) just call DTV, they can turn it on immediately.  I did that over a year ago.  Just tell them your local Fox station is owned by Fox, they'll look up your account and bingo, you have channel 88.
