Proposed Multicasting Rules

All I can say is thank god for Directv.  Many of the primary games for CBS-58 are shown as "extra coverage" by Directv - which means I can actually make out the uniform numbers!  I can't believe how bad the picture quality is on digital CBS-58.  It's like watching the game through a screen door!

So, I would propose the following multicasting rules.  Maybe the FCC will consider adopting these?!?!

1.  Multicasting should be avoided at all times.
2.  If a station is going to think about multi-casting, it should refer back to rule #1.
3.  If a station feels that it HAS to multicast, then it may, as long as the following conditions are satified:
a.  All programming must be shown in HD if it is delivered from the network in HD.  No exceptions.  The local affiliate must choose a SD game to show if it is unwilling to show an HD game in HD.
b.  In the event that a station decides to multicast, no signal degredation (sp?) is allowed.  In other words, a station is not allowed to lower a bit rate and "dummy down" the picture just to squeeze another channel in.
c.  If a local station does not have the appropriate equipment to assure that the signal is of the highest quality, then they are not allowed to multi-cast.

The viewing public deserves better.  We deserve better.  We watch the games and the commercials.  We support the advertisers.

I'm sorry, but I'm sick of watching one of the greatest events in sports through a screen door.

Somehow, someway we need to get through to CBS-58 that they are NOT doing things the right way.  I'm not sure how.  Maybe if we complain to their local advertisers?

I just don't know how to make them listen.  Calling the station and telling them doesn't help - they don't care.

OK, done ranting.  If anyone has any ideas, please include them in this thread.

Go Badgers & UWM!

This Wisconsin game looks better on the web than it does on 58-1. Other markets are getting it in true HDTV.

Adding rules like this would never happen... there's too much money to be made in multicasting... and I've never known government agencies like the FCC to ignore money. :)

Someone should buy PAX and run nipple slips on all channels all day long. Maybe that would get their attention? Their justification would be that they "pixelated" the "offending" item out by multicasting.
