HDTV suffers a ding on the radio this morning

Maybe some of you heard the snippet that Bob & Brian had during their "showbiz news" segment regarding an article (haven't found it yet though) in PC Magazine that gets into DVD copy protection for the proposed HD-DVD.

I'd really like to read the article before riling everyone up, but their comments about waiting to not end up with a Beta TV certainly don't help our cause.  Not to mention, I question how accurate such a statement is.  They mention that your set will need to have the decoding capability.  I'd prefer to think that this will be imbedded in the player, but who knows.

If anyone can find the article online, please post the link.

Someone should really try to contact the Lazer Morning show about all the HD programming. With the amount of TV Bob and Brian watch, they would definitly plug HD programming. I hear all the time how Bob (or is it Brian) talks about how great DVD's are. This morning they were talking about HBO's replay of Band of Brothers. I was in my car thinking to myself, "Yea, I saw it in HD with 5.1 sound...and it was incredible, better the second time around." If I would have had my cell-phone with me, I would have called them up.

Greg, please consider the source.  Bob and Brian are very entertaining, but not very well informed.  They are self proclaimed, glorified joke tellers.  Don't forget they do apologize at the end of each show.

True, however for as often as they mention how much TV they watch, and how often they plug Flanners, I'd expect better.

The question is, how many people heard the comment about not buying a set now?  Even if the basis of the comment had some merit (still haven't found much), the reality is that all this is just here-say until the FCC really makes the decision.  And as Flanners, this is not exactly what I want to hear on a highly rated morning show with lots of listeners.

I agree with Matt, they probably just need a nudge in the right direction.  I think I know just the guys to do this.....

Steve Zaben (the sports guy) on Lazer was on the other day telling Bob to get his antenna up so he could watch the Masters in HD.  Bob said that it wasn't allowed in his subdivision.

Will HD ever make it unless cable or Direct TV offers more programming??

Bob is a potato-brain. If our technology needs guys like him to be articulate spokesmen for it to become successful, we're doomed!

BTW... The FCC prohibits developers from putting language in their deed restrictions that forbids antennas or small satellite dishes. You can put up an antenna and nobody can make you take it down... even if your deed restrictions say you can't.

However, I doubt that either of those guys live far out enough to require a rooftop anyway. And they make enough money to afford a nice HD home theatre.

I will agree that they need to be enlightened about these things. I'd be willing to have Bob and Brian over to my house to check out the Masters. I am only about a mile from where they broadcast off of Hawley Rd.
A little bit of golf in HD for a couple of golf fans!

If there's plenty of sunshine, the Masters could be the best HD we've seen.  The cameras will have plenty of light, and will thus be able to achieve excellent focus.  The Olympics were also especially good when outdoors, but without all the white and a better sun angle, the Masters should better.
