Why does a Mac monitor have...

...better resolution than my HDTV?  I was in the mac store today and saw the new 30" Cinema HD display, with a native resolution of 2560x1600.  Granted this monitor costs $2500, but that's almost half of what I paid for my 46" 720p monitor over 2 years ago.  If you havn't had a chance to view this monitor, I would recommend you do so.  There are quite a few displays setup in the Mac store in Mayfair mall.  More info here

Multitasking I guess... you can have more visible program windows open at the same time.

Dell has a new 30" and it's few hundred dollars cheaper.

Yes, in the latest PC Magazine they reviewed both MAC and Dell new high resolution monitors and rated Dell better and it is cheaper too.
I think it is too big bor monitor to sit close to and too small for TV to sit far from :D
Yeah, it is expansive anyway... :D

I'll check that article out.  I'm not shopping for a new monitor, but just getting knowledge in case one of those "ah-what-the-hech" days comes along.
