I have been experiencing random signal breakups on Time Warner's HD channels.  I think they've just been on the HD locals.  I'm in Wauwatosa and want to know if anyone else has seen this.  I have a friend that is a few blocks away that experiences the break ups too.

I used to get my locals from an antenna.  I was living in northern ILL and was quite a ways from downtown Chicago, which caused me to get a weaker signal.  The break ups seem to be similar to those that I got during my OTA days.

I have the SA 8000 HD DVR.

Any thoughts?

First I'd upgrade to the 8300HD, it's a much better box. Second, I'm not sure... it could be a problem with the signal strength (too many splits or a bad connection somewhere) so it might be a good idea to call Time Warner and tell them of the problem, they'll want to send someone out to test the signal strength. No signal is perfect so every once in awhile you're going to get a breakup with HD, but if you're noticing it a lot, something is up.

I live in Wauwatosa (west side) and have not experienced this recently.  I have the 8300HD box.  When I first got HD through TWC, I did have this problem, though.  They came out and installed an amplifier and things have been great since.  I'd give TWC a call.

Also try rebooting your box.  Whenever I start to see breakups like this (twice a month or so), a reboot fixes it.

I live in Milwaukee and have been struggling with pixelation and sound drops with TWC. It happens more than once an hour for me. They are very short (less than a second) but annoying! I have had TWC out many times, rewired from the pole to the box (8300). Replaced the box, rewired again... Signal seems ok (-1 or 0 dBmV) But still have problems

I live on the west side of Milwaukee, a couple blocks from Wauwatosa, and I experience the same problems.  Rebooting sometimes works, sometimes not.  I have the older SA DVR, I should probably trade it in for the 8300.

I had TW out here a year or so ago and they said the signal was fine.  This may be true, but does anyone know what they use to measure this, I would like to try it myself.

on the 8300 if you press and hold the select button and the exit button on the front of the box, then press exit to enter the multipage diagnostics mode.

Well TW came out, I was at work, so I couldn't talk to him.  But, he brought out an 8300 and when looked at the work order receipt, there was nothing on there to indicate he did anything else.

Well there's good and bad to this.

The good, I haven't experienced any breakups since receiving the 8300.

The bad, I am now having audio issues.  ESPNHD audio seems to break up for a couple of seconds pretty regularly.  I also get audio/video delays on many of the other HD channels.  I reboot the box and it seems to fix it, except for TNTHD.  TNTHD still seems to have this problem even after a reboot.  :bang:

I guess I have to replace the "new" 8300.

I'm new to Tosa & TW.  I'm moving from ILL and had DirecTV and their HD DVR.  I had no issues to it.  I only went to cable because of the wiring requirements of satellite.  I had DVRs in 4 rooms and in the old house I had it wired perfectly.  But since I moved in the winter, I didn't want to do any wiring in the winter.  Outside of the DVR issues, I don't have really any complaints yet about TW (except for Road Runner speed, but that's an issue for a different newsgroup  ;) )

Don't know if you are aware, but you can take your box to one of the walkin store fronts (like in Mayfair) and swap it out, no need to wait around for a tech.

Yeah, I've been to Mayfair.  It's just a hassle.  I guess I'll try swapping the 8300 for a new one and see if there's any differences.

Also, from reading posts over on AVS about the 8300, the DD 5.1 problem is known and the "fix" is to go into settings and switch the audio setting from dolby to two channel, exit out, the go back and reverse the setting.
