3 words why DirecTV is the clear cut choice for HD

NFL SUNDAY TICKET.

This is an exclusive deal between the NFL and DirecTV.  No one else has it and no one else will get it.

I've had this package since 1997 -  It cannot be beat if you are a football fan.

Plus, starting this last season, DirecTV now offers over 100 games in HD.

Why be subject to regional coverage.

Ditto. ...and didn't D* ding you extra this year for the HD games??

I can't wait til the NFL wises up and ends their exclusivity deal.  They can lower the price and still make huge $$$ by opening it up to all providers like the other sports, no matter how much D* throws at them.

I have it and love it but yes, it's very expensive and only going to go up when the new deal kicks in this year.  The extra charge for HD was $99 this past season but enough people squawked about it that they lowered it to "only" $49.  They called it the "Super Fan" package and it came with a few other things besides HD but the only reason I ordered it was for HD.

All the other sports offer their packages to all sat/cable companies.  I agree, it would seem the NFL would make more by splitting it up than DirecTV is paying.  I don't understand the logic.

sp44again

that link says $209 for the year without HD, so you add $99 for HD or will they have it at $49 cause so many people complained last year?

Matt Heebner

I also agree that it is just getting to be too expensive. I had ST for years, hell me and a few buddies used to split the cost years ago and I did love it BUT......

I will not pay extra for the "priviledge" of watching it in HD. To me they are charging  a HD tax because you don't see this fee added on to anyone except HD capable subscribers. That was the last straw in my mind. If they eleminate the HD tax, I would go back.

I have OTA HD and EspnHD all games I wanted. Even more then enough. Moreover, GB is covered 100% in HD.
Thanks, D* Sunday Ticket is not for me.
But I understand that not everybody in WI is a GB fan. In that case, they can pick up this $300 D* HD deal.
I don't agree with you that D* is a clear choice for HD. Not for me. I always select the provider with most HD. It was Voom, now it is Dish Network which is set up to air 9 more HD channels, 7 of them on Feb. 1.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the new Dish Network HD channels are locals right? Who cares? D* has the same thing.

No, I was not talking about locals: 5 new Voom chanells (I don't much care about them with one exception - WorldsportsHD), Espn2HD, UniversalHD, HGTV HD, Food HD. also noted in Dish slides, but not mentioned, StarzHD.
Also locals, I did not mention them, I don't care about locals on satellite, I have them all OTA from Milwaukee and Chicago.
So, HD pack will include 15 Voom, Espn, Espn2, Universal, Tnt, Discovery, HdNet, HdNet Movies, HGTV, Food. I don't count worthless HD Pay per view and HD Demo.
Premium HD include HBO and Showtime. Hope, that Starz is coming too. Dish announec 5-10 more HD channels before the year end. :).
Mpeg4 HD receivers also coming now (model 221, regular) and Feb 1 (model 622, 320GB HD DVR and  model 222, two tuner regular HD receiver).

DishHD seems to be more aggressive in adding  the HD national channels than Directv is, at least,  by its announcements.

Maybe Directv is holding back until it gets some more HD LiLs up as it doesn't seem to announce much about HD channel additions ahead of time, at least from what I can remember.  :)

HD channels sort of appear in the channel guide (like TWC HD when they used to add them). :(

Yeah Dish has all those Voom HD channels that's why. Don't want two dishes on my house though. Not worth it.

Sorry, I thought from reading satelliteguys posts that all you needed was the new Dish1000 for everything.

If you want HD then one Dish 1000 will deliver it.
But if you want locals (in HD later this year) then you will need two dishes, because Milwaukee locals are not covered by Dish 1000. They are currently on International satellite.

Ooo.  Food Network in HD.

Look how much clearer Emeril's bald spot is in Hi-Def!

gparris

Hey, food is always better in HD, unless you're dieting!

AndrewP: Thanks for the update...what sat will the HD LiLs for DishHD MKE be on?
