The bottom line for me is, the previous 5 years the Pack won because of their talent, not his coaching. This past season we lost due in large part to lack of talent, again, not his coaching (I think). Regardless they are no worse without him that is for sure and his lack of emotion good or bad sure did SUCK..

I think they fired Sherman to make sure Favre will retire. Because the next coach will have a new system.  Favre, the old dog, does not like to learn anymore new tricks.

So the next coach will not be Steve Mariucci.

Sherman needed to go. Favre needs to go,  but he'll be back to milk them out of more millions of dollars. Favre never listened to his coaches anyway, so maybe someone in the Packers organization needs to grow some balls and tell him to retire or leave.

Who's this Sherman guy? :) The local media here sure don't have any clout. Fox had it before anyone local had the story? Doesn't make sense. Favre really needs to retire or move on, especially considering he has no interest in grooming a replacement. Doug Flutie might be available next year and he can play Australian rules football with your former #1 draft pick. :D

Ok, This really doesn't make sense.

You cannot throw 22 talented guy's out on a field expect then to win by themselves do you?

I will say I'm pretty sure that Sherman was not the answer to returning to the super bowl.  BUT, He also wasn't a bum, With what he had to work with I think he did pretty well.

I think a new coach is needed because Sherman wasn't the guy to start over, his GM decisions pretty much showed that.

And what is with all the Favre bashing here and in the media.  He's old he's lost it, he's only in it for the money.

Personally I hope he doesn't come back for a couple of reasons...

Does he need to be bashed by the Ungrateful media and the fans anymore.  WHAT HAVE YOU FOR ME LATELY???  3 MVP's and a Super bowl. SO WHAT that's ancient history.

"We know what's right you have to retire, you have enough money"

I agree it's time to rebuild, If I was Favre I wouldn't want to be here either. At this point in a career who else would.

Fair weather fans. :bang:

I know there's a few of us on the board who remeber those heady days of Forrest Gregg, Dan Devine, Bart Starr,  Rich Campbell, John Hadl, David Whitehurst.

The others, are of an age where they don't remember Lindy Infante. All they know is Holmgren and Favre.

Welcome to the real world, the Packers are going to suck for a few years. hopefully not another 20 like last time.

wow I think you read WAY too deeply and yet missed the (for me and I think) portions.

get real.. yeah I am really expecting 22 talented players to win on their own. My point is that Sherman did no real good and did no real harm aside from some poor decisions as GM.   I do not think our winning seasons were due to his wonderful coaching! and I do not think this past losing season was a direct result of his poor coaching..

You are correct that there are alot of ungreatful people it seems.  I love how people talk about Favre as if they knew him, met him, or were friends with him. He will be back to milk for millions? You have got to be kidding me.  If people are this unhappy now wait until they have to sit through the next few years of rebuilding.  What will they say then? Oh, now I wish Favre DID come back or stayed? Never forget how good we have had it.   Nothing hurts more than hearing about the Chicago Bears, NFC North Champs.....  If the Packers were heading in to the playoffs we would be hearing much different talk from the bashers. sad.

I'll be the first one to call you stupid for bashing Favre. Not only is he one of the greatest quarterbacks in history (that we should be thanking God for being graced with ) but, one hell of a human being.

Besides that, you stick him on any mediocre team with a decent line, and you'd have a definate playoff team.

I can't believe you guys. :(

StarvingForHDTV

I'm with the resident pirate on this one.  You should be ashamed of yourselves for attacking one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Talos4

Basshive, I'll concede the point about Sherman and his coaching abilities.

Discussion about coaches can be polarizing especially when it comes to comparing the relative level of team talent versus coaching ability.

Matt Heebner

There will always be 'haters out there, especially if they are Bears fans. Favre has owned them for the past decade so of course they are bashing. They should be thankful that he is considering retiring so they dont have to continue getting their butts handed to 'em in Soldier Field almost every year...... ;)

I also agree with Paul....as Packer fans we should be extremely thankful for having him as our QB for the past 14 years. I know I am !! In 14 years I've seen the Pack win division championship after division championship, been fortunate enough to see TWO Superbowl games, and got to enjoy every game because the Pack was always "in it" with a three time MVP. But most of all I got to see a player who  embodied comptetive nature, unbelievable skill,  a heart of a champion, and someone who had the desire to win second to none in any sport.  As a Packer fan, and a Favre fan I say, Thank You Brett!

I am not that old, but I do remember the Packers of the late 70's and 80's and believe me.....I NEVER want to return to that.  Can anyone say Forrest Gregg ?? Lindy Infantee ?? Even Bart Starr ??? Those werre some very terrible teams.

As much as I professing my love for the Green and Gold, I do understand the need to start rebuilding and looking to the future. I for one am glad that Sherman is gone, and I look forward to the Pack rebuilding.

Oh, and a side note....I finally got my Packer license plates the other day after 3 months of waiting.....they must have forged the aluminum by hand or something....

So, who here thinks Steve Mariuchi will return?  That may be the one thing to keep Favre one more year, and maybe, just maybe, things won't be as bad as they were this year.

Is mooch working anywhere since being fired in Detroit?

GBK

Thomson wants Favre out.  Simple.. He so much as said so when he said the reason Sherman was fired is because "he had too many ties with players that may have to be let go over the next year or two".  He wants his own stamp on the Packers and the only way to get that is to get rid of the old team.
